Talking streetlegal for the next 2 years!

Hello fellow square buddies!
It is allways a challenge to get the inspection with an "exotic" in Germany!
Yesterday i went there with my heart beating like crazy!
The inspector was very pleased with the overall look and shape of the truck
and he asked about the lowering parts and the paperwork for the proof to be legal in germany!
I told him that the american parts don´t have such paperwork but these are quality parts from a known manufacturer: "Bell Tech"
The vehicle height is written in the papers and that should be ok with one eye closed!
To inspect the undercarriage i had to drive through the brake test rolls and there i hit the metaledge with the right lower controllarm and gave it a big dent!
The inspector looked at it and said: " thats the bad side of lowered vehicles!"
He asked if there are no dustboots for that shocks!" must be the cheap version" he said!
Next he told me to remove the wrapping around that rear breaklines because they catch all the debris and make the lines rust!
All in all he told me how he wishes that all vehicles would be that clean and well maintained!
Now i´m street legal till August 2012!

The point is to keep unsafe vehicles off of the road. There are a few states that require some pretty tough inspections.
I don't know how severe it is now, but Virginia used to be really hard....and I think it was twice a year? not once every two years.

True, but it's really only CA that's a pain in the butt.

Checking out Texas would take a lot of time and i´d love to do that but WHEN!?

my truck was born white and with a 350 diesel in California. It came over to Germany in black and i totally stripped it and painted it spanish red! The front is from a ´89 Blazer

Yes it was delivered with the 5.7 Olds diesel!
It leaked more oil out the it used diesel and after about 500 km of driving it broke down! The dealer i bought it from then gave a 6.2 liter J Diesel from an armee hummer to me and i got that installed. The motor pulled very brutal and tore the accecories apart and crushed the tranny and that was the point i decided to do a frame off restauration! I sold the 6.2 somewhere along the way and decided to put a smallblock chevy in it because of the looks and cheaper maintenance! I must say that i´m very happy with the way it sounds and runs. The only issue is the fuelconsumption!
The lowering and new paint and stuff i did to it had nothing to do with the engine and drivetrain! But all the technical changes made it hard to get it streetlegal after 15 years of wrenching! i had to use a little trick to get the first inspection and now after the first period i´m very pleased with the performance and depandability!
The smog check was very easy because the original cats wouldn´t be accepted in germany so i don´t need any smog equipment at all!
They just measured the CO and it has about 1.79% and the tolerance goes to 3.5% so that is very good!

I hear ya. I had to get this German one done here in California. It's a real nail-biter huh. This one was a grey market car in California 280 SEL.

he man! I tried adding a comment in your picasa album, but its greyed out for some reason.

I wondered how you fitted the different headlight, but i see you just cut a new hole, t fit them

nice job!

I am currently thinking about fitting Projectors in Suburban. I already have Xenon bulbs in my current headlight, but the lightbeam of the reflectors is terrible. A lot of extra light that blind oncomming traffic.

Drive it like you stole it on the Autobahn!! I wish I take my truck over there. 100+ MPH is no problem with my truck.

I did that and it is great! I drove it at full throttle and burned a full tank of gas!
Unfortunately it pressed some oil out the valvecovers and it burnt oil too
so i drive it gently now and everything is fine!
I´ll pull the engine next winter and get all the seals done!
An LSX swap would be really great but it would bust the budget also!

@ 1lowtoy nice Mercedes you have there!
My friend has one and wants me to get him some bumpers because they are rusting away! I can´t find some good ones for a decent price! The good ones get rare!
