Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
You can pull it off carefully trying to get as much off in one peice and then remove the remaining glue residue with ammonia. Please be in a well ventilated area if you go the ammonia route.

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
peal it off in as big of pieces as possible and use glass cleaner that comes in an aresol can we use the brand sprayway its a blue and white can. it seems to break down the glue pretty well. use a razor blade also with the glass cleaner keeping the razor blade wet. carefull not to scratch up the window. its not to bad. Good luck.

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
the glue in newer tints break down pretty quickly with nothing more than windex with ammonia.
peel off the film ... soak the glue area with windex ... scrap with a NEW razor blade |

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
I have used a heat gun with great success. It is still a slow and tedious process, but it helps the glue stay on the tint not on the glass.
Simple green also works well for what glue is left.

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
I've used this method and it worked well. I don't really think there is a "quick and easy" way to remove tint.

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
They make tint-off. Peel off tint, spray and wipe. Should be found anywhere that sells tint....Walmart has it.

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
I used tint off when I peeled the old stuff off my Dodge before I retinted them.
Worked great.

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
My tint guy uses super clean. Don't cut it, use it straight, and use a LOT of it. I have done is several times with excellent success.
You should see him do it. He can do a window in 1 minute. Within 10 minutes, it will be re-tinted. |

Go to the Dollar Store and buy Ammonia and a cheap pump spray gun. Easy OFF.

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
Let the window sit in the sun and warm up, most of the glue comes off with the tint.

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
A former student of mine who is now a Washington State Patrol Trooper carrys a razor blade and tells the clown with the over tinted windows "you peel it off or I will". That usually gets the job done in record time. There are some around here that I would swear are painted black rather than tinted..

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
Always had good luck with any citrus based cleaners. My old job had some called Zone Defense, its an industrial solvent we used to remove all kinds of adhesives just spray it on and wait a few minutes and attack it with a plastic scraper. If you use razor blades you need to bend them a little so they have a slight arch, that way the corners of the blade won't dig in and scratch the glass.

Re: ok geniuses,window tint removal
I used to work in a glass shop doing auto glass, we always peeled it off, then wiped the glue off using Denatured alcohol. It worked like a charm!
