Can auto headlamps be disabled on a 99?
Hopefully someone has a way to do it. I don't mind the auto lamps most of the time but there are times when i don't want them on.

The times you don't want them, just turn your headlight switch to the left and that will disable the auto headlights, but from that point you will have to turn them on manually until the ignition is cycled.
Edit: this is for the auto headights on the 99-up newer body style and is for the headlights not the DRL (daytime running lamps)

Well, what I did is basically a quick fix, but I guess you could bypass the circuitry sensor for it. I always presses my emergency brake down just far enough that the sensor picked up and turned those lights off, but not so far that it actually engaged the brakes. I have a 99 old body style.

Re: Can auto headlamps be disabled on a 99?
Yes mine is a silverado but it doesn't have the same type switch as say an 04 has that you can turn to the left. It would just be nice to be able to run them manually when i wanted to. Yeah i can press the park brake down but that doesn't work when the engine is already running and i don't want to look at the brake light flashing either and besides if i drive it while the brake is pushed then it of course will ding at you on a regular basis. SO no i just want a way to turn them on when i want them on.

Re: Can auto headlamps be disabled on a 99?
I have an 01, and a LEO relative, showed me a trick once. I don't remember all the specifics, but then again, I don't have to start it without them, to move the "surveillance vehicle". It involves hitting the dome override switch three times fast. I am not sure, I think the parking brake still needed to be set, then released, so they wouldn't come on.

Those tricks don't work on mine, besides i would rather be able to turn them on an off at will. There's a solution somewhere i just have to keep searching.

Well, I don't know what to tell you then man. All I can figure is find the hot wire whenever your parking lamps only are on and trace it back to the relay and maybe even past the relay to learn the entire circuit it makes. This way you can splice it and make an inline switch to run under your dash. That would be the most simple and easy solution if you wanted to go that route.
