can I keep my stock 235 motor with a camaro subframe

Ok I have a 59 and I am about to do a camaro subframe and I was wondering if it was possible to keep my stock 235 and 3 speed transmission and move the 3 speed from the column to the floor. Any advise you have would be helpful

If its a 59 motor with side mounts you can. But if it has front mounts its going to be tricky. using a floor shift on the 3 speed is not a problem.

I believe the casting numbers show the motor as a 1956 235 but I believe it does have side motor mounts. What do the front motor mounts look like?

The front mount uses a plate that goes behind the timing cover and has a tab/bracket on the bottom that the rubber front motor mount bolts to.
Side mounts wouldn't be all that hard to fabricate to use with that chassis.
Did they leave or cut out the center crossmember that the bellhousing normally bolts to on the trucks? If it is still there and you use the correct bellhousing you just bolt it up and get the top of the carb level and figure out how you want to fabricate the side mounts or you could use a front mount with the belhousing mounts.

.
On 216's and early 235 they had the front engine plate mount. On later 55 to 59 they had mount the bolted on the front left and right sides of the engine just under the generator. On the 58 and 9's they sometimes had a 3 bolt patern like a SBC has and its closer to under the exhaust manifold and distributor. at #3 cylinder. Most all the 235 replacement blocks had side mounts near the exhaust manifold and all car 235 after 58 had side mounts. 58 up 235's were also drilled for hydraulic lifters from the factory.

dwcsr gave you the straight scoop on the mounts. Look for 3 holes in a triangle pattern (1 up and 2 down) on each side of the block about halfway back. These didn't start until 58, so I wouldn't expect your engine to have them if it is a 56.

In case you run across an engine with a reverse triangle pattern (2 up and 1 down), it is a 52-54 and will not accept the later type mount unless you fab a custom bracket for it.
