TOTM - November 2010

Our Truck of the Month theme is:

One!

Let us check out the criteria or rules the vehicle must meet in order to be nominated.
  • Open to all years and models of one-ton (C30/C3500)/etc) trucks.
  • It must be licensed for street use, altogether, and able to move on its own power.
  • If a truck has been a TOTM winner during 2009 or 2010, it is ineligible for the current contest. If the truck was nominated but was not selected as a TOTM winner then it may be nominated and compete in this month's category.

To Nominate:

You or someone else may nominate the vehicle. The nominee must be a board member and the current owner of the truck. Once you decide on who you wish to nominate, just add your nomination to this thread. We will need two pictures minimum (at least one full view of the vehicle) with/for the nomination as well as the owner’s board name, the year of the truck, and any other specs of the truck (interior details, engine/drive train specs) that you may want to provide.

Nominees will run through October 24. The first 15 nominees that meet the criteria will participate in the contest. I will PM the nominees to get any additional data or pictures if they have not already been provided. I normally use 1 picture showing a good front-side view and 1 with a rear view of the vehicle in the voting threads. If the owner has a preferred picture they want used in the contest, please let me know in a PM. You can PM me for an e-mail address in case anyone has problems resizing the pictures for the board. A Poll Thread will be set up in this board area and an announcement will be posted on the Discussion Boards to notify all of the voting. The Poll will start to run on October 25 and will run until the morning of November 1. The official announcement of the winner will be on the afternoon of November 1. The announcement of this month’s TOTM winner will be posted through the General Discussion Board area.

Re: TOTM - November 2010

I wouldn't mind nominating my one ton, or tonne as we spell it up here.
, but I just blew the engine in it so I may be out, it can move under its own power coasting down a hill, but that is as close I can get. Time to put in a 454 or a 5.9 cummins that I have kicking around to tow the big house trailer.

I like to think that my truck represents the full figured models out there, seeing as though it has big hips.

It originally was a GMC 910 that we re-mounted on a '92 GMC 3500 series truck, extended the cab 20", installed 2001 Silverado seats for the long runs that we do and kept the 350 sbc coupled a NV4500 5 speed. We use this truck for our family vacations draggin the wagon and for pulling the car trailer.

Technically sort of, tied up in my father's estate right now, so really my mom owns it, sadly my dad really never finished it 100%, but we did use it as his hearse which was fitting. Eventually I am supposed to get it as part of an early inheritance from my mom, as my dad was only 65 when he passed away, hopefully my mom will be around for a long time, and it would be a shame to have it sit, for right now it sits in the garage and I bring it out twice a year for some local shows.

This is quite a moving photograph. I hope you will be able to keep this truck in the family.

ditto here. Reminds me of my grand dads funeral. He was a fire chief so his last ride was on the back of his fire truck.

It will hopefully remain in the family, the truck was his passion for over 10 years, he would sit in the truck for hour meticuously running wires and thinking about how everything would fit together, then he had a heart attack and lost interest for a few years (he painted my truck one month after getting out of the hospital) then he regained his interest in the truck and was excited to finish it when he passed away suddenly so the truck has huge sentimental value, needless to say I will do everything I can to keep it.

It was amazing, my two brothers have '68's as do I so we had a classic car procession, including 72 Mario's truck behind mine plus some local cars fall in as well, not bad for a funeral in March in Canada with snow on the ground.

Re: TOTM - November 2010

Thanks Bob and Jeff. This C-30 has been in a state of transition from the day I brought it home last February. Actually it spent most its life as a wrecker for a body shop until the owner retired, letting it sit for over a year before he sold the wrecker half only to replace it with this set-up:

Needless to say that red box he added for a wannabe landscaper truck was the first thing to go. That was not my vision for what I wanted to see for this truck.

Granted it came with problems. It didn't take too long after arriving home to discover when the wrecker bed was removed a lot of wiring was cut and while it sat in semi-retirement mice moved into the dash. So what you see today has had my fingerprints over every square inch to get it to this point where now it can work and play like it did when new. Yet part of the fun is being able to work on it and thanks to this forum that makes it a lot easier!

Yes this was exactly what I had been looking for in a truck for a long time. Today, looking back, despite the little things I had to do to get it right, I couldn't have imagined anything as nice as this one has turned out.

Yet, like everything, it all takes time to get it to the specs I was wanting in a truck. Finally, today it has become the truck I wanted to see since I brought it home; a 'built like a rock' classic Chevy 1-ton with a pto dump bed, a little bit of chrome, mechanically solid 350 with the 4-speed manual. These days it is just an enjoyable truck to work when needed and to play with on occasion.

While it is no where near perfect for any show,(yet) it has, for our needs, become a truck for all seasons. yes, this one is a keeper.

Re: TOTM - November 2010

I'll throw up my dad's (Rocktonka) 1958 3800 Chevy Apache that we rescued from it's 10+ year field nap. It currently has the factory drive train, and a dump-flatbed. It may not be the cleanest, sharpest, or most custom, but it's a working example of the classic farm truck . It means a lot to our family and besides, how many dually dump bed's like this do you see out there?

Re: TOTM - November 2010

It's a shame this contest isn't limited to "factory" one tons. It's nice to see good ole work horses put back to original beauty or even all gussied up for today's preferences. But,you could have a one ton K/5 or even a LUV.Not to take away from some fantastic builds, but the wow factor alone on someone's dream creation trumps (for most) the good ole tonners that rarely fit into any other contest.
Maybe an idea for another month's contest?

Factory,as in the VIN.Since you asked,I define your's as a 1/2t converted to 8-lug 3/4t axles.I'd call it a 3/4t if you heavied up the springs to 3/4t rated.I know lift springs actually take a 3/4t down to a 1/2t,which brings it all back to factory VIN to define.
It's just a suggestion for another contest.I'd go further to suggest separate contests for 2wd and 4wd.I just think it would be nice to see a more consistent field. There are working 1T tow trucks to trail rigs with 1T axles to bagged custom painted 3+3s.To me it's like having a contest for all 1/2 tons.Again, just my suggestion for another time around.Palf does an excellent job single handedly running the TOTM feature and I commend him for that.
