Hey all needing some help here, building 68 Chevy 1/2ton coil spring truck with 4.10s.... doing swap over to 5 lug disc brakes on front, stumbled across complete 71 GMC 12 bolt leaf spring rear 5 lug,,, can i simply just swap axles and gear/carrier unit ( GMC has 3.08s vs mine is 4.10s) im thinkin should be pretty simple swap? or be better to add my trailing arm bracket to GMC rear?? any help appreciated....

Re: Need 12bolt rearend help...
You are better off swapping the trailing arm brackets. The 71 axles are too long for your housing, and if you don't have the tools or knowledge to swap gearsets you're in trouble.

Re: Need 12bolt rearend help...
thanks for the info.... swappin the gearsets over wouldnt be a problem but was thinkin the 71 axles were different width for a reason...guess i remembered right.... on the front if im thinkin right 71-72 spindles for disc brakes is a direct swap right??? if i can find them ill go that route...seen some deals from CPP that uses chevelle rotors and calipers on stock spindle with there mounting brackets...any info on these deals??? id consider that with gettin the rotors drilled to 5x5 bolt pattern to match rearend swap... any help appreciated!!!!

Re: Need 12bolt rearend help...
I believe the 71-72 spindles use a different lower ball joint and tie rod ends. You can buy a adapter sleeve for the tie rods or change the center link to 71-72.
