Loose Steering Column - repair or just buy another?

The steering column in our 69 C10 is loose... has a lot of play in it and you can grab the steering wheel and move it quite a bit - up and down, side to side. The outside of the column seems stable, so I'm assuming it is the internals... looks like there is a lot of bearings in there. Is it worth buying the parts from LMC to rebuilt it or should we just buy a used one?

Good advise. Mine had a lot of slop in it too. I messed with the bolts next to the shaft in the engine bay which took care of the back and forth. The side to side looks to be a worn bearing that you can buy from the catalogs...

The bearing replacement will cure alot of the slop, if its not a tilt column its pretty easy to do yourself. There are only two bearings, top & bottom one.

Just did this last winter. Piece of cake. Striped it down cleaned it up painted works like a champ. Down on the bottom end were the spring rides it had worn the shaft down. Welded her up good as new. Bought the parts from LMC

Thanks guys. Looks like LMC will be getting more of our money. I like the idea of cleaning it up and painting it too... especially since the truck is a different color now.
