Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
I am TTT to see what comes up. Definitely would be interested in some pix of the ram set up, not just the diagram from the 67 assembly manual.

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
I am under the impression that there was no true 4x4 power steering option on 1967. First appearance of powersteering in Chevy 4x4 truck was 69 from factory. Do not know about nappco though.

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
think John is correct. You might have to use a 68-72

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
I've seen a few 1967 2WD powersteering setups... not very good though.
Best bet is to upgrade to a newer front axle, then you can get disc brakes and use a newer power steering setup off any solid axle truck

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
What about the ram assist? Was it for a 67 4x4? Swapping axles would be a last resort. I figure trying to match the gear ratios would be a pita. Thanks for the help.

Hi Aaron, I have a 67 2wd with the ram assist power steering. I'll have a look this week and see if it would be possible to add to a 4x4. Sharpie

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
I have several of the ram assist for 2 wheel. I have gotten close to figuring out to use it for a wheel drive. I am restoring with every option possible a 67 swb 1/2 4x4 that came stock with 292, A/C, PB, tach, tilt and many other interesting options but no P/S on the spid.
The major issues are the center link and the pitman arm. I also have the P/S setup from a 67 50"s series which works but doesn't steer right. Like I said I am interested in what comes up. thanks, Steve |

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
I have a correct 69-72 4x4 steering box..$75 shipped. Has the small spline steering rag joint..the box fits 69-75 my 69 K/20 had manual steering on it,was a 292 truck..frame rail is flat behind box..so bolting a power unit should not be a problem.

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
I've been watching for one of these for quite some time. I've found several trucks that had "factory" power steering only to have them turn out to be either 69-up boxes or aftermarket conversions. Saw one with a setup from a larger truck too, looked pretty out of place on a light duty. It looks like a lot of the parts are the same between 2 and 4WD, I may end up just making my own.

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
Bob, nice parts diagram! This should be very helpful to many with the ram assist set-up. I have read that many of these parts are the same as the Corvette set-up. Sharpie

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
If you guys want pics of an actual setup like BobS posted above in #12, let me know. My 67 has that setup. There are a few pics in my "Finally found a 4x4" thread but I can get more and better quality ones too. Sorry not for sale though.

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
I have had 2 over the last 20 years of parting. came off of 68's I think. pitman arm comes off the box different for the ball style front axle. pretty rare to find but they are out there

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
matching a newer front axle is easier than you think... mine had 3.73's and I found a 1982 axle for $50, gained power steering and disc brakes at the same time.

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
Hi everyone following this post. 67 and 68 models were always interesting to keep up with the power steering option as the ram assist is quite common when found on 67's and, often mentioned in some publications as correct for 67-68. They could be but I have only ever seen it on 1967 models. All of the 68's 2wd trucks I have ever seen use the 69-72 style power steering design. Now I see postings for 4 wheel drive models with power steering, yet members remind us that no power steering was offered on 4wd until 1969. So if this is correct (as it could be) then GM built it for 65-66 4wd trucks and then quit using it until 1969 ? A few of the post from members have 4 wd trucks with power steering, but I am not sure of the design they have ? Any help with pictures or a spid would be helpful. I too have a 68 swb 4wd and would like to have the correct power steering option on the truck .... I have just purchased a 1968 K10 power steering assembly(69-72 design) from a former ebay listing and when it comes in I will post the build dates from the steering gear box. Maybe a little egg on my face or it will be a pre august 68 casting. I will also post the pitman arm if you all think they might be different. As for the original posting of a want to buy..I have a 2wd power steering assembly with a 3/4 ton center link as well as the hard to find 1/2 ton center link from another purchase if it will help you. Thanks you all ! Randy

Re: WTB 67 4x4 power steering
Finally had time to put my '67 GMC up on the lift today. Seems to match the diagram from BobS. Here are some pics:
