death wobble
i have a 67 2wd i just replaced all the front suspension parts and got it close to alignment and the steering wheel has play in it,
could the steering box have anything to do with the death wobble? |

yes it could,,
you did tight'n down all your new parts? never hurts to double check with the stear wheel unlocked, grab the shaft going into the box, (vice grips work here) and see how much "play " you have before the pitman arm starts to move, you might see the rag joint is your issue(the rubber joint the your box and shaft bolt to) that and a sloppy box can make for a odd feeling down the road.. good luck.. have to look, (it's 5am now) but some boxes have nut and screw on the top (like a holley float set up) to adj the slop out of the box, don't know it these do(readly haven't looked at mine) Last edited by stich626; 10-25-2010 at 05:52 AM. |

Under what conditions are you getting the death wobble? What size truck and tires/wheels do you have? Close on alignment is not good enough and could be far enough out that it contributes to the death wobble. An alignment shop will check out all the components before they align it and, at least the reputable ones, will not align it if there are warn out parts.

i have 15x8 wheels and a 235 60 r15 tire nothing should be worn its all new but the steering box, as for alignment ill prolly get it done in the spring because im putting the truck away in a week anyhow, i might try putting a new ragjoint in it and adjusting it and checking the fluid level. oh and it manual steering

Make sure the tie-rods are all tight.

Yeah, replace your rag joint, I just did in mine. It wobbles whenever you go around a curve?
