Hey guys - I have a 71 C10 shortbed fleetside that I'm doing a frame up on. The frame is powdercoated and I'm getting ready to toss a whole bunch of parts at it.

My question concerns aribags. Would you recommend airbags, stock springs, or the coil-over conversion from CPP? I'm only going to drive the truck on weekends during nice weather and show it, that's why I'm leaning toward airbags.

I also noticed this on ebay. It looks like a complete aribag kit (F/R) with tanks and the track bar for under $1,000. Is it worth it and what are your thoughts?

What are you planning to do with your truck? I did notice that threre was no compressor or valves so there is going to be added expenses there. Eric

Welcome to the site.That's a killer deal for sure.Can't go wrong.You better hurry!

All I can offer is you can do a static 4/6 drop for that much or less and not c-notch as long as you don't load the bed and go easy on speed bumps.5's the practical limit or c-notch and take it down 6 or more without worrying.You don't want to travel much lower anyway.If you want to play with it while rolling,lay it low when parked,or carry stuff w/o a worry airbags are the bomb.Dropping the front much more than 3" with stock spindles will put negative camber on the suspension...bags or springs.You can get into custom a-arms and sinking cups,etc.But,to stay around $1,000 ain't happnin.

I've built many cars and trucks in the past, but this was given to me by my pops and I plan on leaving it to my son as well. I just want something that I can cruise down the street in without having a horrible ride. I don't really car about laying rail, as I've done that already with other vehicles. I just don't know if the C10 handles with a bag kit.

As far as the build goes, this is what I have to install:
Currie 9" rear with aluminum center
Currie 9+ 3rd member
Baer Big Brakes at all 4 corners
CPP Dropped Spindles
Vintage Air Kit
Rod Doors complete interior w/seat
Gaylord Cover
600hp - 5spd trans (Race prepped SBC)
Two Tone paint - Original Hugger Orange over a smoke or black bottom.

The engine will come out of our race program - I'm involved if off road desert racing.

It looks like kit moves the bags on rear forward from most setups just a note

If you go with lowered springs and shocks,along with a super track bar (that's what ECE calls theirs),a 4/6 static drop rides nice since the coils are progressive and designed for that height.I'm keeping my '67 simple and that's what I went with...no c-notch.I want to tow a camper and/or haul in the bed so I'm thinking I'll end up with bags replacing my rear springs to firm it up when I do hitch up or haul.
Sounds like a nice build planned.That was a good suggestion to check into the suspension section for the best "low down".
