1955 Gas tank under the Bed conversion

I have a C3100 1955 1st series and recently took out the gas tank with lots of inside rust and pin holes. I thought about replacing it but I really dont like the idea of having the tank in the Cab.I have seen some other conversions on different vehicles but not on this type of truck. Has anyone got pictures/options on what they did to reliably convert the tank?

thanks for the help..

Several companies sell an aftermarket aluminum fuel tank that fits between your rear crossmembers. You may have to remove a spare tire braket or one crossmember. It usually comes with sending unit. You have to run a vent, fuel line and wiring. I believe Performance Online has them on sale. I just bought one for my '59, it was a good price.
I have a brand new original style, behind seat gas tank, if you want to go back to that, I would give you a heck of a deal on it.

If you still have rear leaf springs, you can install a tank forward of the rear axle between the frame rail and the driveshaft. The filler comes through the box sidewall. This arrangement was used on early AD trucks, and I prefer it to the rear-mounted tank.

Re: 1955 Gas tank under the Bed conversion

Here at No Limit, we custom build fuel tanks.
They fit under the bed, between the frame rails. With your choice of filler
Standard Cap - You will need to put some kind of trap door in the bed.
Cool Cap - Filler comes up through the bed (great if you are going to use a wood bed) or you can even go side fill - through the side fender. - You will need to c-notch the frame.
The tank for your pickup is $459.00
Comes with all hardware, straps to install.
As far as the sending unit, we do carry them. We do not include them with the sale of the tank because everyone is using different gauges.
A lot of aftermarket gauge sets come with the correct sending unit, or we can sell you one.

Best I can do while they hibernate. It looks low in the air like that but not lower than the pipes. That is 20 gallon ,he will make it shorter if you like.

Re: 1955 Gas tank under the Bed conversion

thanks for the info..

but let me ask this since I have not seen it posted..

If you put the gas tank under the bed, why cant you run both pipes from the original passenger side filler thru the cab floor board(where the tank used to be), then down to the gas tank??

Can this be done instead of putting the new filler tube thru the side of the bed or in the bed floor itself?
