Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
Can someone out there post some pictures of how the manual throttle control cable and bracket mount to the carb? Thanks.

Re: Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
Nope. I'm talking about the optional manual throttle control that is located on the dash right below the wiper knob. Its a screw type knob with a worm gear that pulls or pushes a coil wrapped metal line like a heater control line.

Re: Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
I dont think it mounts to the carb. i believce my 67 mounted to the throttle lever that mounts to the firewall. 71 and 72 may mount to the carb because of the cable throttle. I already removed mine so i have no pictures. sorry.

Re: Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
What year truck? The early ones connected to the carb and the 71 72 connected to the pedal assy i believe. Maybe someone can clarify that.

Re: Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
I don't know what year it came out of, but I'm putting it into a 72. I don't think this one was meant to connect to the gas pedal linkage because of the length of the cable. The cable is clearly long enough to go throught the firewall and reach the carb.

Re: Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
Here is a picture of the Manual Throttle on my 72. It looks like it may have been connected to the gas pedal arm at one time. You can see the hole where it was attached at the top of the arm. A PO must have disconnected it at some time because it does not work. This has always been somewhat of a mystery to me. Hope this helps.

Re: Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
Lehsuper1500 - That does help me some. It tells me that the cable and bracket on mine is different from the setup that connects to the pedal arm. I guess that means mine is supposed to connect to the carb.
Everyone - Thanks for the replies and keep em coming! |

Nope, yours connects to the pedal arm too. The cable and bracket you have is the early style. I am sitting here with one in my hot little hands. It has a bracket just like yours and it is bolted to the pedal arm. The thing you have to remember is that on the early trucks the arm that the throttle rod connects to is on the outside of the firewall and the later trucks it is on the inside of the firewall. The throttle cable connects to the arm on both of them. LockDoc

Re: Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
What exactly does it do or what is it's purpose?

Re: Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
You could screw it out so the truck would crawl along slowly. This way one person could load/unload stuff like bales of hay. Also, if you were stealing watermelons you could load a lot of them without having to carry them very far...
Oh, you could pull it out a little to make the truck warm up faster on cold mornings too. LockDoc

Re: Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
The vernier throttle was also used for PTO operation. We had one in a tow truck.

Re: Manual Throttle Control Knob on Dash
Wish I could help... my truck used to have a throttle on it until some idiot threw it away while he was taking the truck apart. Take a guess who that was... c'mon, take a guess.
It did indeed connect to the throttle lever inside the truck (71-72). In the pic, it shows that it went up and over the w/s wiper motor before heading to the gas pedal. |
