SPID typed information

I am curious what most of you are using to type the information on your SPIDs if you do not have the original. Some examples of how it turned out as well would be nice. I am guessing a typewriter, but when I do it I just want to be really close to original look.

Re: SPID typed information

Contact member Chipflyer- Jeff Lampe- he has the correct program to do this for you and does an excellant job. They are not just type written, but a special font that was used and you can pick a fake from ten miles away if you use a regular type writer. Contact him and take a look at his work- his web site iswww. out in the shop.com

Re: SPID typed information

So Jeff actually prints the stuff for you on a spid he provides? I will have to check on that.

Re: SPID typed information

I am dealing with Jeff right now and I will vouch for him as to his knowledge of what should be put on the spid for the year you have ..

for example:: I lost my spid off my jockie box door when the painters painted the truck so all I had was memory of what the truck had on it when I got it and when I added a factory tach into the dash I wanted to put on the spid ( U16 Tach ) and Jeff advised me that that I already had ( Z53 amp/oil/temp/guage ) and when you have this last one he has never seen the (U16 Tach ) on the same spid..

If you need the help I needed to find out what is on other spids for reference ,,go to search and type in Spid Picture Thread ..hope this helps. gp

Re: SPID typed information

I will have to remember this. The SPID on my truck is very deteriorated. It is still legible, but I am afraid that if I put it back on the truck over time it will not become legible. If I could get a nice repro SPID and keep the original in my display case that would be great. I wouldn't want to change anything and misrepresent anything to any future owners, just have something I feel comfortable putting on the truck while the original stays in its nice climate controlled environment.

Re: SPID typed information

Jeff, is the man!!!!!!!! Please be patient with him, he has had a recent death in the family so I'm sure he is not wanting to mess with these spids right now.
Jeff if you read this, I'm so sorry for your loss if you need anything please call me, or if you need to get away and drink a beer, I'm here. Randy

Jeff... I'm sorry to see this. I'm not sure on the specific loss to your family, but you and yours will be in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Re: SPID typed information

Srea76, Back in the day spids were printed on high speed impact printers. The font was much bolder than a typewriter. In the late 60s to early 70s printer speeds were constantly changing and getting faster to try and keep up with processing speeds. A large company like the general would change printers often to keep up with the faster speeds as they came out. New printer, new font, so thats why some spids look a little different than others. But in general all spids had a bolder font than a single stroke typewriter. Chipflyer has it down, that's why his spids look so good. I'm going to have him do mine when it's time.

Gopapa, The z53 guage option was included in the u16 tach option, So no spid would have both. If you want you could just go with the u16 as it includes the z53, your choice of course.

Jeff, My thoughts and prayers are with you in this trying time.
