im a dumb a**
im startingo get really pissed off as i cant get the guage bezel or the damn stearing wheel off the wheel nut and three screws are out and the headlight rod is out of the bezel. i just spent a good part of an hour trying to get both off in one peice. well i did succede in getting my self really agrivated tho. i just need some guidence and to vent

You need a puller to remove the steering wheel bud. The dash bezel, you must remove the screws that you can see, disconnect the oil pressure line, disconnect the wiring harness, remove the windshield wiper knob and the headlight switch. To get the headlight switch you have to reach up under the dash and there is a button on the switch block itself that you have to push in while pulling out the knob. The wiper knob has a small screw in the side of it, loosen it off and it will come right off. This should help out a bit...................i hope

Don't forget the spedometer cable! I got my bezel out by loosening the whole column and droping it, because the bezel would touch the column on the way out and wouldn't let it move at all, and patience is a virtue, which I don't have Good luck

both ehe wiper knob and the light rod is out as well as the screws around the out side but something is hanging up. the bottom is free but the top is solid wont budge. im confused.

You need to jockey it a bit to get it out, I've heard of people dropping the column but I can get mine out by moving it back and forth a bit. You did take off the bezels around the wiper knob and light switch right?

i usualy take off the steering wheel with a peice of wood and a hammer! lol. thats if i dont have a wheel putter. just back the nut off so its even with the bolt to protect the threads. then smack the wood with the hammer a few times...

You shouldnt have to drop the column to get the bezel out, I have done it many times without any problem.

the wiper knob has a set screw in the side, if you ahve any of those rtiny screwdriver sets for glasses tehy work great

Are you talking about the bezels, meaning the little chrome things about the size of a quarter that go underneath the wiper and light knobs? They simply unscrew from the dash. Just get a pair of pliers and turn them and they will come off.

wheel pulling is ez-if ya got a puller-they're cheap-do any parts places have a "loan-a-tool" program near you?

I went through all that yesterday myself and tore up my headlight switch and wiper switch before I figured it out. If you're that far and have chrome bezels under the knobs you can take a screw driver, put it in one of the slots on the bezel and bump it counterclockwise and it should unthread.
I wish I'd known about the set screw on the wiper knob and the release button for the headlight knob. If anybody out there hasn't had the experience yet, those knobs sure don't twist off like the choke knob does. Live and learn. |

I use a pair of needle nose pliers with each tip in one of the holes on the bezel. Then I just turn to get the two nuts off.

I find it easier if you unhook the speedo cable and the oil pressure guage before trying to remove the bezel. Just don't force it, as that old plastic getts pretty brittle and you'll crack it.
