disc brake conversion questions?
I have decided to go with GMC Pauls drop/6-lug disc conversion kit. I have some questions before i buy it tho and was hoping someone would have some answers.
1. when the brake components (pads, rotors, calipers) wear out where do i buy new ones? 2. what shocks are yall running with 2.5 drop spindles in the front and 4 in the back and do i really need a shock relocation kit with that drop?

Re: disc brake conversion questions?
why dont you ask them before you order. i did the ece 4/6 drop. the brakes, rotors, and calipers are all the same as the 80s chevys so autozone has all the parts. They are probly using factory parts off of another year truck, and your just paying for them to put together a kit, and all the drop parts. As for shocks my kit came with the shocks, I dont recall what kind they are. I think you move your shock because they would be in the way of the tracking bar(not sure on that one though)

Re: disc brake conversion questions?
If it is like the ece kit then all the pads, calipers, ball joints, etc are factory parts, the only thing special is the 6 lug rotor.

Since each dealer obtains their parts through various suppliers, I would contact GMC Paul's and ask them directly. If you have any questions related to the install of the 6-lug disc brake upgrade, check out my build thread here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=353633

Re: disc brake conversion questions?
Our calipers in the kit are 79-87 1/2 ton truck, the brake pads are 71-87 1/2 ton truck, inner & outer wheel bearings and seals are 71-87 1/2ton truck, if you buy the deluxe kit the prop valve, lines & mounting bracket used is a 71-72 style, and the disc / drum master cylinder is also 71-72 1/2 ton truck. The 6 lug rotors are based on the 71-87 1/2 ton 5 lug rotor but are drilled for 6 lug and you would need to source these from ourselves or any other truck parts vendor that carries the 6 lug 12" rotors ( ECE, CPP, Brothers, LMC, ETC....) which is carried by almost every truck parts vendor, the 5 lug rotors are 71-87 1/2 ton truck. So everything except for the 6 lug rotors can be purchased locally if they need replaced.
In regards to shocks we carry the KYB Gas-A-Just or KYB GR2, most vendors go with the GR2, we prefer the KYB Gas-A-Just as the GR2 has a slighty soft valving in our opinion, the Gas-A-Just are $10.00more but definately worth it in our opinion for ride quality. When lowering 4" in the rear you are right at the breaking point of needing rear shock relocators, you do not have to have them but the ride quality is improved over not using them due to the fact the 4" rear drop places the shock more horizontial making it perform less efficiently since they are designed to absorb vertical travel.
