10 Bolt differences between '87 and '88
Is there a difference in the 10 bolt rear end from the 81-87 C-10's to the 88+ C-1500's. I may need a rear end for my '88 C-1500, and was wondering what my choices are.

John there is a difference. The older 10 bolts have a 27 axle spline and the 88+ have 30 spline axle shaft. The older 12 bolts also have a 30 spline shaft. One reason I bolted a 12 bolt to replace mine. Use the 88 axle or find a nice old 12 bolt.

Thanks for the reply, but will the older axle physically bolt in place of the newer one, are the width and spring perches the same.

John,
The rear ends from the first years of the 88+ models will bolt right in. The only difference is how they are bolted up. The new style have the "U" turned 90 degrees from older style. The older style have the U bolts on the axel itself. The new style don't. Just check the photos on my setup and compare it to your setup. http://www.geocities.com/abetterchem...ustombars.html ------------------ Gerardo 1983 Custom Truck TX Plates: "BAD BOW" http://www.geocities.com/abetterchemist/ [This message has been edited by gchemist (edited 01-24-2002).] |
