New member with some questions
My 70 C10 is nothing special to look at but it is very solid mechanicaly so I continue to use it. Equiped with factory 350 (rebuilt several years back), headers, edelbrock intake and carb, converted to HEI, added powersteering, THD 350 auto, 2wd.
I would like to get a better seat in this thing since the drivers side is all sagged out. What is the easiest thing to swap in? Also have been reading posts about putting the gas tank under the bed and getting it out of the cab. I have some tanks laying around out of various other cars, anybody have tips on what may fit? Would like to get disks on the front. I have a 1980 chevy sitting around for parts that is all complete, can I swap spindles from it or are they different? sorry for the long list of Qs. Andy

Welcome to the board. Yes you can use the '80 for parts. Like was said, try the search function for ideas and info. Most of us have done at least one of the things you want to do.

welcome from houston. the best thing to do about the discs is to use the whole front crossmember. there are only 7 bolts per frame rail (if memory serves me correctly) that need to be taken out. unbolt those, on both trucks then swap them. easiest way. hope that helps.

on the cross member swap, both trucks still have engines in them, so it may not be that easy to do. Still want to be able to move the 80 around when I am done, so that would be nice to do though.
Maybe I can borrow a second engine hoist, get everything ready and do the swap in a day. Will have to drill some new holes in my old cross member most likely sice the 80 has an olds engine in it (thats why I origionaly bought it was a strong running 403 olds and THD400 tranny). Have noticed lots of KS members on here. I may be looking at a 70 C20 this weekend. Don't know what they guy wants for it yet, just heard about it. Looks farily rust free though ecept for the rocker pannels. Andy

Welcome from Wisconsin. Have you thought of having a tank custom fabricated? Mine cost less that a new replacement Blazer tank and is not poly and only about 10 1/2 inches deep.

yowza! another new guy like myself. with the same questions!
I just read in a post from a few days ago that 80s blazer seats basically bolt right in, the owner [I forgot who] said he put some backs from a fiero on them, had them re-upholstered (sp?) and they look sharp. there was another post about 80sish cutlass/regal/monte carlo (something along those lines) fuel tanks fitting in the spare tire location... I'm heading to the boneyard hopefully today to look around. I'll let you know what, if anything, I find. |

I think I am gonna try the gas tank thing myself. I have access to lots of junked G body GM cars (80's cutlass mostly). I also have a 78 olds 88 sitting around i was gonna measure up. Also have a 89 Jeep cherokee for parts (I got to much stuff) was gonna measure that tank up.
Last time I was in the salvage yard I noticed a late 90's suburban that I may call and see what they want for its front seat. It rolled and had glass and mud all over it, but hey I can clean! Will get some pics taken over the weekend and post.
