76 4x4 Blazer frame
I have a 62 Chevy body on a 76 (I think that's the year) Blazer frame. The truck rides like a 1 ton. It has 7 leafs in the rear and 5 in the front. Dana 44 in front and Chevy 12 bolt in the rear, all 6 lug. Is this a half ton? Did they make a 3/4 ton Blazer, or has someone added leafs? All the suspension looks stock to me, just heavy duty.

Re: 76 4x4 Blazer frame
Has your box been shortened? If not, you might have a 76, but definitely not a Blazer. The Blazer WB is 106", so measure yours and see what you have. The 6 lug wheels and 12 bolt rear make it a half ton. If the ride is stiff, I'm thinking that the PO just goosed up the springs.

I'm trying my first picture post. I read somewhere to use photobucket and attach the link. We'll see if it works. The truck is on a Blazer frame with the short bed shortened 11" How many springs should the 1/2 ton have? Is it that easy? |

Re: 76 4x4 Blazer frame
That is definitely one neat looking truck you have there and I bet it grabs a lot of eyeballs whereever you go. IMO, it is sitting higher than stock, so if it has no other obvious lifts, I think it is likely the PO played with the springs. Hopefully, someone who owns a stock 76 will be able to give you the leaf count.
I did a copy and paste on the link to see the pic on the photobucket site. I think if you remove the quotation marks the link will probably be clickable. Ray

Re: 76 4x4 Blazer frame
It does have a 4" body lift and 35" tires. I would like to lower it 3-4" with 33" tires, maybe a 2" body lift (if possible) and fewer leaf springs. This will probably wait until I need the next set of tires. I think this truck would have looked very odd 10 years ago, but since many new full size pickups have even shorter beds, I think it is more accepted.
