Everybody has to start somewhere project: Square forceone

My first car is a 1984 chevy scottsdale c10. I picked it up a few weeks ago for $700, not too bad for a pretty solid square in iowa. it has some rust above the wheel wells and behind the back tires, and surfaced rust everywhere but that sands off easily. Other than that it seems to be a great truck had been sitting for about 2 years but started. I have since changed the oil and had the carb rebuilt and now it runs great. What do you all think

What URL? Is it behind a firewall? Just askin. Uploading, you have to click The Upload button after you select the files, then wait for the % to become 100. Also, maybe since you just signed up, the site software blocks you from uploading pics to prevent spam??? Not sure.

Nice score for 700 dollars. Looks like a pretty solid truck.

I don't mind the look and would keep it till i could afford i real good paint job but thats all surface rust and i want the rust gone so no im not keeping it. I would probably painted it a light blue like a lot of other squares. My opion on the painta paint is that if it came that way orginal paint i don't mind it but i wouldn't pay to get it that way. If it was like 60-66 i might throw some clear coat over the orginal paint but other than that i would just give it a new paint job IMO

Re: Everybody has to start somewhere project: Square forceone

sorry but ppl who pay for a patina paint job, I dunno about them, it's just stupid IMO. No way would I pay for some ugly, no way would I pay for a satin/mastte/flat paint job. You're gonna pay just as much if not more for them then you would a nice shiney one so why not have it shiney? I don't care if anyone else has one, I'll just find a different color if I want to be different from them.

Now with all that said your truck looks good. interior is in nice shape and so is the body, minus the paint.

I would never pay for a patina paint job.... If I had one that looked cool or had a neat shop logo I may rock it till I could afford to paint the truck but I would never pay for it.... NOW on the flat, satin or whatever...... satin black is JUST about my favorite color... I like it alot. My 53 chevy will rock satin black..... again just opinions and thats mine!!! have fun!

Re: Everybody has to start somewhere project: Square forceone

If someone simply wants to finish a vehicle this way because he likes the look, regardless of the cost that's on the individual, and whether anyone else likes the look really does not matter.

Re: Everybody has to start somewhere project: Square forceone

no it does not matter what I or anyone else thinks but I mean come on why? All that money and time wasted on a fake crappy looking paint? I just don't see it or understand it and personally hate patina. If I wanted it to look that way I'd just drive it and not bother painting it washing it or whatever it'll turn out that way.

Re: Everybody has to start somewhere project: Square forceone

think this is like many other things, is a personal choice. It will be tough to find 3 people that agree completely on this subject.

It is a style that has grown on me.But not something i would do, but it is an option for other people. i definately wouldn't call it stupid or ugly, imo.

I did the clr too. It works pretty good and it'll make it look better until you decide to paint or get the money for paint.

Very nice truck and definitely a score at $700. You might look into the Rustolem paint jobs. They seem to turn out pretty well, are really cheap, and you can do it all yourself with a foam roller.

Re: Everybody has to start somewhere project: Square forceone

well to me patina is ugly I never liked it.

Now if it came that way, like others said I don't have a problem with it, I just wouldn't pay or spend the time to fake it, I'd let it happen if I wanted it.

I wouldn't blame anyone for leaving one that way, or leaving it rusty, if you can't afford the time down or the cost of paint you gotta do what you gotta do.

I usually don't like much primer jobs, but I've rocked those before too. I preffer black over grey to be in primer for awhile, but when I ranprimer for awhile it was grey.

I never liked the satin jobs or could beleive ppl paid to do it that way, bvut I saw a nice stepside today on here that looked great in satin black. I could live with it and rock it for sure.

Flat or satin black has grown on me and would rock it, or another flat or primer, but would eventually paint over it. uit's just my opinion and ppl do what they want with their truck and I don't blame them for it.

now on topic....

I would definately take care of the rust, it'll get worse, if nothing else sand it off, spray it with self etch primer, you can get it in aresol cans at the body shop supply and it'll convert any left over rust to help prevent it from getting worse or new forming. The trunk on my mcss had spider cracks and rust under it and when I stripped it I did not remove all the rust, just painted over it with that stuff and like 5 or 6 years later out in the weather after painting the whole car over top of the self etch primer, it has never shown one spec thru anywhere on the trunk that had rust. it works great, then you can just let it dry wetsand some and spray any kind of paint you want over it.

Re: Everybody has to start somewhere project: Square forceone

would the clr do anything i mean wouldn't it take it down to just the pair metal? im trying to everything to not turn this in to a rust bucket. i have thought about the rustoleum because it can't be any worse than this and it protects against rust. I have an uncle who just air guned and old ford and some tractors it didn't look bad so i might see about that. btw what do you all think of my user name (squareforceone) i thought it was pretty cool when i thought of it
