Which exhaust make the best sound???

Hi!

I have a 1970 gmc pick up with a 350 cui engine!

I installed headers...in the pipes are 2,5".

What you think is the best muffler choice for an good agressive sound like an dragster???!!!

Well, no mufflers at all would be your best bet if you want it to "sound like a Dragster".
After about 3-4 months though you're gonna get tired real quick of the noise, so I would put something on it like Flowcrappers, uh, I mean, Flowmasters 50 series. Or try Spintechs.

Everybody has an opinion on this,go to youtube and look around and listen for a sound you like.Don't forget but a stock 350 will sound alot different than a bored,stroked,cammed 350 that is running the same setup.

Under my last car (chevy pick up 6,2 diesel) i had flowmaster super 44 and 3" pipes...they sounds great!!!

As many have said...there are many options. What I did before I went with Spintechs was to listen to a lot of different trucks that had BB's as that is what my truck has. I choose Spintechs but there are a lot of great options. GOOD LUCK!!

I just put a set of CSI mufflers on my truck, they look like flowmasters at 1/2 the price, real happy with the sound too! I got them at NAPA for i beleve $48

If you like LOUD...... I've got two cherry bomb glasspacks on mine.... the low frequencies (bass I guess) is like like open headers at all rpms, but the ear-piercing high frequency noise is gone.........they sound pretty mean at 6000 rpm though

You want to sound good make a set of mufflers out of a piece of driveshaft.I use to have a set on a truck and it sounded dang good.Or a set of glasspackes

First off, let me say welcome from Tennessee, USA. I think it's really neat to see members from other countries. I don't think we have any other members from Germany. What part of Germany are you from?

As for answering your question, it may depend on what you can get. You say you had Flowmaster on your previous truck. IMO(in my opinion), I think Flowmasters have the best sound for stock or mild engines. I have recently heard a few cars and trucks with Magnaflows and I really like them, but I don't think they have the "drag car" sound you're looking for. They have a more subdued, muffled sound compared to chambered mufflers.

The link below is to my photobucket account. My blue 68, and the 56 Chevy both have 2.5" pipes and Flowmaster Super 40's. The Monte Carlo and ElCamino have Flowmaster Delta Flow 40's. The 53 also has the Deltaflow's but it has a straight 6 engine.

First off, welcome to the board. To answer your question, if you want something that sounds like a race car you don't want Flowmasters. What you want is a pair of glass packs. Depending on how loud you want it go shorter for louder, longer for not as loud. I'd probably stay with at least 18" or 24" glass packs to avoid to much attention from the police.

right now i have a 2.5" dia pipe stock style single exhaust with a cherry bomb muffler on my 72 burb c20. i has a nice muscle car tone without being annoying or disturbing the peace.

hoping to stick a magnaflow x-pipe stainless dual exhaust in behind the stock ram horns eventually. big exhaust won't help that stock 307 much but will make a difference when i get my 406sbc swapped in.

the x-pipe is supposed to scavenge well, but i hear from a coworker that it will make for a little extra resonance under the cab.

Yes sir, I do I have run an H pipe on every truck I played with. What you get, is a slightly tamer, but more "tuned" sound to the exhaust. No BLAAATT when you step on it in the low range, (like it cant get out of its own way). The crossover helps in the low/mid on tork, with no bad issues on high end power. The H is old school, & easier to fit to mosts apps, whereas the X is new tec & will probably show you a little more, but they both work crazyAl

Different size cases, and slightly different baffling configurations. The Super 44's have the Delta Flow technology, standard 40 series do not. You can however get a Delta Flow 40 series. They're just a tad quieter and smoother sounding.

Any of the Flowmaster mufflers in the 40's are 2-chamber. The only differences will be case sizing and chamber configurations. The 50 series are 3-chamber. Check link below for info.

Thanks for the compliment! It is pretty loud, but I don't have tailpipes or an H-pipe which would quiet it down a little. You could go with the delta flow for the same sound, just a little quieter. If you want any other vids let me know.

You may want to look into a set of Moroso Spiral Flow mufflers. I witnessed a set of these last weekend down in Tulsa, Ok with 68 Shortstep's truck. Good solid aggressive sound and the truck runs great, too.

IMO Cherry Bombs are not obnoxious if they have full length tail pipes. The engine is a 350 SBC, mufflers are 2-1/2" x 28" O.A.L. and the truck has long tube headers.

Here's my '72 (RIP). Sorry it's only at idle. I was taking pics. They are Series 40 Flowmasters with tail pipes all the way back out the rear.

Thing is, the Series 40 sound like this if you are cammed up pretty good.

I'm going with the same mufflers and 2.5 pipes, headers. But milder cam. So I don't know what the new build will sound like.
