16x8 vs 16x10?

Debating on the width of new rims.

I want the tires to pop out a lil wider than the fenders but I don't want the tires to look all balloony as some say. Rims will be wrapped with 35" tires. Will mainly be on the road with some seasonal snow. Off roading once and a while.

Suggestions please....

Re: 16x8 vs 16x10?

how wide are the tires going to be? if they are 14.5in(+) wide id run the 10in wide wheel. if they are 12.5in tire id go with the 8in wheel

Re: 16x8 vs 16x10?

I'm sitting on some 15x8's with 35x12.50 right now.

Going with 16's and 315/75/R16 (35")
or 345/75/R16 (36") just not sure how 75 is converted on a tire width

If I can't find the right combination I just might stick with the 15x8 wheels for now and just buy some different rims later, don't care for the black look

the 75 indicates the side wall height and is the percentage of the tire width
so 315's side wall is 236mm (9.3") and the 345's is 259mm (10.2")

I have 16x10 on my truck with 35x12.5x16 Nittos they look and fit great

Re: 16x8 vs 16x10?

What kind of truck? IMO, that makes a huge difference. What axles?

With 8 lug rear from an '86 Suburban and 16.6 x 10 with 4.5" BS, I find the 36/12.5 fit great. My 1/2 ton axles had 3 5/16 bs which was about the same stickout as the 3/4 ton and the more bs wheel.

If this is an IFS truck, I wouldn't even consider 10" rims unless they had 5" or more bs, and then tires might rub on frame.

Tire size calculator - This is easy to use, will give you an idea how the sizing works. It only goes up to a 335 though since its from a Miata site... yeah I know Mazda but it works...

Re: 16x8 vs 16x10?

im runnin 15x8's with 35x12.50 BFG's, and i think it gives it just enough "ballooney" look.i think with 16x8's it would look like too much wheel with the tire.

Re: 16x8 vs 16x10?

@ Mike. I have a 72 K5 blazer half ton axles

@ Dalaigh Nice wheels there, for me it's gunna be between some MT classic 2's or classic locks. I've seen those Nitto tires and they are beefy, are they loud when rolling down the highway? How's the performance off-road with them?

They are loud on road, I haven't had a chance to take them offroad yet, but a friend has them on his rander and he says they are great offroad.

315/75s are 12.50/35s and I don't think 10" wheels make them look too balloony.I think 10s will give the look you want. These Xterrains have a wider tread base than most tires.

WTF???^^^^

I have no idea how that happened. My battery was low and I got a warning when I typed that first line.I plugged it in and I didn't see what I type showing,so I typed again and finished it.I guess I hit the enter button when reaching for the cord. Then,I saw it was all weird and tried to edit it.It won't backspace! Oh well, sorry for the weirdness.Stupid computers!!

Re: 16x8 vs 16x10?

Your backspacing will dictate how much they stick out, but I agree a 10 wide rim with a 12.5 wide 35 looks good. Less backspacing means more offset, and a wider track.
