i cant decide on wether to put a 250 6 cyl in my truck or a v8 what u guys think?

The 250 is a really reliable motor that gets decent mileage and when done-up, and has a certain cool factor that a V8 is missing. However, horsepower is also cool, so the V8 is your best bet if your looking to spend money on performance. I am usng the I-6 on my build becuase I've had V8s, and seen alot of em too. I'd like to experiece crusing around in a hot rodded six also. Its only a matter of time for me though, I will soon get the urge to go fast and will stick the 400 small block in that I have.

I agree if you want nostalgia go with the I6, if you want power go for the v8. The other advantage to the small block is the plethora of parts available, both new and in the junk yards. Also the small block parts are always the cheapest.

I love the inline 6's, but my opinion is usually to run what you've got.

i enjoy himileage trips at hiway speeds that are in the 70-90mph range and that is done best with the power of a V8 in a pickup truck

Heard that....3150 on the tac , puts my old longhorn @ 105 in overdrive(.76 on the OD, 3.42 on the gear & a 29" tire"). Yea, 85-90 is an easy cruise in that old bird. If thats what the next guy wants , Me doubts that it will happen with a 6cyl

Yeah 3150 on the tach in mine gets me...........62 MPH!

I gotta get rid of the 4 speed and 4.56 gears with 31" tires! It gets up and goes real good, but the fun runs out when you hit 60 MPH. I have a 3.73 rear to toss in and I'm gonna do a 5 or 6 speed swap next, that should get the RPM's down a bit

It just depends on what you want your truck to be. I could not decide on a 6 or a 8 so I have one of each. I have a 454 in a '71 and a 250 L6 in a '67. Both are in the project phase.

The 454 is for play and the 250 L6 is for nostalgia cruising.

Here are some pictures of 6's, not mine though.

Power steering and AC? If you run those power robbing accessories, I'd go V8. If you want nostalgia, it would be neat to have power nothing with a 6. Something kinda neat about seeing so little under the hood but I would still take the 8 with the accessories if you plan on driving a decent amount.

Only way I'd want a six is in a no-frills swb truck that didn't get many highway miles and would be used mostly in town or crawling around in the woods.

Inline 6 are sweet, i will always stop and look at on at the shows everybody has a v-8..... There is lots of times i wish i would have not built my 362 and left in my ol 250. The six is the ultimate cruisin motor to me they run like sewing machines. I still have it though next project i might have to buy some hot rod goodies for it

I would go V8 Small Block just for the ease and cost of finding parts. With the internet age I doubt there's much issue finding parts for the 6, but I can go into any old parts house and find just about anything I could ever want or need for my 350. If I had my choice as far as nostalgia goes I would love an I6 mostly because it's what my dad had in his truck back in the day and I remember tinkering on it with him all the time. Brings back good memories for me.

when i ran my two inlines i have owned i never had to buy parts for them i did have to put a choke pull-off on one $3 then

My v-8 seems they want something all the time

and the inlines ALWAYS started up and ran soooo good

Yeah I know how that goes with my BMW dd It's the smaller 4cyl rather than 6 and it rarely ever needs parts, but when it ever does (filters, etc.) it's a little harder to get.

I'm having the same issue on to keep my 250 or put in a 350....250 hasn't ever been rebuilt and runs like a tank

Makes ya wonder if there are performance parts for an inline 6.

Heres another thought, my 60 GMC had a 305 v6, i have not seen a lot of them, i think that would be an attention getter for a truck show.
