Swapping intake/carb on an 85 305
I pulled off the air cleaner on my 85 today and couldnt believe all the crap thats under there. I'd rather do a haedgasket job on a new Honda than on this thing.
Anyway, how could I swap my edelbrock intake/carb on without screwing with the computer. In other words, what do I need to leave on the truck? I still have to pass inspection and emissions after I get it running so I cant just throw all the old stuff out. But theres way too much sh*t under there to put back together. Im sure theres a few of you who have done this before... ------------------ 72 chevy future dragger 1993 GMC K2500 tchsusp@hotmail.com "Built not Bought" "Are you pondering what I'm pondering, Pinky?" -The Brain

If you have a tough emissions/inspection program where you live, then you have to keep the junk. I have the same setup on an 85 I inherited; tried rebuilding the carb (with the wires)and it still ran crappy. I looked at all the smog pump plumbing, hoses to the vapor canister, wires, and decided to put in a spare 350 I had. BUT, there are no emissions testing where I live. As mentioned earlier, the distributor needs to be changed because the 305 used the one with the spark control/computer. You can get a cheap one off a 75 or so truck - - one that uses the 4 prong control module. Good luck!
