New wing windows

Has anybody purchased and used the aftermarket wing window assemblies? I hate using chinese crap but i might consider. I don't feel like messing with the old ones. the rivits from the kits are not really correct. they are long enough but not deep enough (They don't mushroom enough).

Who has had the aftermarket ones longest and not had rust problems in the metal?

Re: New wing windows

I can't speak for longevity but the chrome quality looks decent at best. I have a brand new pair I'm going to end up selling because I'm going to go with one piece windows. They look nice overall but like I said, the chrome is far from show quality.

Re: New wing windows

Sometimes with certain parts... it's better to go with an EX pair of used when they can be found.

Re: New wing windows

I bought a pair, and sent them back! The glass didn't even seal to the rubber. Junk! I ended up getting a set off E-Bay, out of Alaska, that were very nice with soft rubber. IMO, look for a good used set.

And after installing my made in taiwan door handles (Exterior) , I won't be installing anything else made in china or taiwan. I opened the door once and the handle broke inside letting the button fall into the door. I'd rather spend 2-3 times as much for NOS parts or USA items, even if that means the project takes longer because I can't afford it all at once! Whats the point when the crap rusts even after a year!

Re: New wing windows

I've heard positive reports from some people, minor fitment issues which were overcome, and one person who complained they got rust spots pretty quickly, but cleaned up okay.
I have a set in boxes and they look great and seem solid enough, actually appear to be a great product...but I no longer trust any aftermarket product, regardless of where it's manufactured.

Re: New wing windows

I had a similar experience to some others... Installed new aftermarket units but the fit against the front pillar of the door wasn't great so it was putting strain on the hinge. After opening and closing a few times, the rivet pulled right out. I had a decent set to begin with so I sent the aftermarket junk back and rebuilt the original ones I had.

Re: New wing windows

You got me wondering about the quality of these after all the horror stories. I dug out a set I got from counterparts ( it's funny counterparts does not state on the carton where they were made, which is a must if imported I thought), I also dug out a set of the "best available" used OE from a vendor.
To me they appear exact, weigh the same and look to be better constructed. All angles seem to be correct and the weigh the same.IMHO they look great! Perhaps the channel felt looks a little crappy, but I happen to have a fine set from Precision, much nicer.
I am prepared to eat my words when I install them in a week or two. I do know this, the repros are looking like the best bet for what I want my truck to look like.

Although counterpart is a taiwan company, its supposed to be the best aftermarket company. Let me know how it goes.
