How does the South treat our trucks?

So I'm thinking of moving down to Alabama/ Montgomery area and am wondering if anybody around the area, or in the south can tell me is rust and corrosion a problem there? I'm sure it can't be as bad as New England even if there is!Anyone else use a 67-72 as a daily driver down there? I brought my rust-free 71 4x4 from Las Vegas, and it's all I have to drive in the snow right now. I'm doing all I can do to save it from the brown nasty for now.
How about any kind of crazy old vehicle legal issues there?

Re: How does the South treat our trucks?

GA gets minimal snow, at least the suburbs/metro. I have several older/vintage BMWs, as well as some other Chevy products, and they are loving it here. Rust is not an issue, unless you just drive in the snow, salt and leave it there for some years...my C/10 is rust free.

additionally, vehicles 25 years and older are exempt from emissions testing...which makes it even better for those of us that are doing naughty things...(see signature)

Alabama doesnt have emission laws and vehicles before 1975 doesnt have titles. Long as you take care of your stuff rust isnt a problem and snow isnt either never snows here

yea there is these trucks all around here and most are still used as work trucks both swb and lwb. Usually daily drivers just have the usual cab corners, rockers rust

Re: How does the South treat our trucks?

Man! You are in for an awakening!!!

I grew up near Pittsburgh PA, (RUST BELT)
When I moved down here to south GA,
I could not believe the vehicles.
There were rust free vehicles in the junk yard.
30 and 40 year old cars and trucks all over.
They don't rust out, Like up north!
It's great. I just tore down a 68 stepside to the frame,
And never had to cut a single bolt. Heck!
I only used PB Blaster on two of the bumper bolt.

Wink Re: How does the South treat our trucks?

Thanks for the replies! It sounds pretty promising so far!
Moving here (massachusetts) from rust-free Las Vegas has opened my eyes very quickly, in that I can't go on having an old car and truck hobby up here. Especially since I own nothing new. Heck, I've never even owned a vehicle with fuel injection! (And I'm only 35 years old!)
THere's no smog test for vehicles below 1996 here, so at least they got that part right, but it doesn't outweigh the bad laws!
