I am getting ready to head out to the garage and start wiring my truck. I bought the Painless #10206 kit which they say is pretty easy. It is all new to me. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions that may be helpful. I'm just doing the basic... lights/signals, ignition, dome light, horn, dash. I want to hide as much as possible...thanks

Just take your time and do one section at a time. I thought the instructions were pretty good. Here's mine when I first started.

Yeah what he said!
Work from the fuse panel, working in the main bunch and as you branch off each circuit, lay them out roughly where they go, and fine tune the layout as you go. Most importantly, DO NOT CUT OR TERMINATE ANY WIRES UNTIL THE HARNESS AND BRANCHES ARE LAYED OUT EXACTLY WHERE THEY NEED TO GO!! They provide lots of zip ties, but I wind up using way more. It just makes it look neater. I also like to add chinese finger-type loom covering, P-clamps, and now is the time to add any wires or circuits you may want or need to make a completely custom setup!
I've installed 3 of the Painless harnesses, and the more time you spend, the better the result.
Get some heat shrink tubing and seal up all connections for a pro-look!

You've already got some great advise. One thing I wish I did (and still am hoping to do) is get the black braided loom to wrap the wires. I used black tape and not only was it a PITA to do, it doesn't look very good where it is visible.

The "powerbraid" kit Painless sells is $220, that is over half of what I paid for the wiring kit!!!!! Where else can you get that stuff?

I bought mine from Jegs and only bought what I needed instead of a kit. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...94962727&Nty=0

Fry's Electronics sells it by the roll. Fairly cheap.

Never looked into it any deeper after seeing the kit price! Thanks for the info and link!

cwgreen1971~ The only places I was planning on running this loom is in the engine bay. Everything off the firewall's harness, so this is actually affordable now (at least in my case).

I did my blazer with a painless kit and it took about 4 days really taking my time..
