Question Where's the computer in a 85 Silverado?

I ordered a new computer for my truck and the one that came in was the one you exchange the chip in. Mine is a carburator with a 305 with a 350 turbo. I heard it is everywhere from behind the radio to behind the pass. kick panel. The only thing I found that looks like a computer was behind the glove box.I even took my instrument panel out looking for it. Just wondering if that was it. If so I can't seem to find a new one. Seems no one around my area knows exactly where it is or what it was I pulled out. Thanks for any help! Sometimes I lose fire and I have a new dist., cap, coil, etc. Was told the computer might be my problem? Just trying to find one.

I dont think there is a computer in a 85 if you say you have a carb. I think computer were only on the tbi vehicles in 87. But if there was one it would be behind your glovebox

it is behind the glove compartment in a such, only it aint really a computer. it is the (ESC) eletronic spark control. in short that spells JUNK. remove it, get a distributor from a 79 or older, or an after market with out the spark control and remove the WHOLE control unit.

You can by-pass the ECS computer by cutting two wires and connecting them together. I can't remember which one rights now. I know Mike has that information on his web site. The wires you cut are two of four that plug into the HEI.

Been through the same thing myself. What I found was the wires coming out of the side of the distributor had a break in them right there at the grommet. With it running, lift the wires up and down and it would shut off. Don't know if this is what caused my ESC box to go bad but I did have to replace it also. I ran this truck for several years with the wires bypassing the control box as they suggest. While it did run, there were problems I couldn't cure such as sluggish performance, pinging, and run on after turning the key off even with using the premium grade gas. I could pretty much stop the pinging by retarding the timing but that hurt the power and performance. I finally gave up and replaced the spark box, put the timing back to stock setting, run regular gas, have no pinging and the power and performance is back. So, to say the least, I'm much happier with the factory setup on mine. Also, mine is a completely stock '85 K5 Blazer with 305 engine. Boog.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I replaced the ESC behind the glovebox with one from the junkyard and the truck is doing fine. Got an appointment at the muffler shop in the morning to replace the blowed out one from all this happening. Thanks again!
