Cowl or not

Hey guys I have recently gained access to a cowl induction hood for my 81. I know an older lady that bought a suburban with a cowl hood. I got to talking with her and she said if I painted my hood black to match, I could just swap em out for free.
But I do like the look of a stock truck. And the cowl hood might require some body work where my trucks hood is primered and ready to paint.

What should I go with?

Here's my trucks hood.

Here's the cowl hood

Re: Cowl or not

go for it man those things go for good money. if you don't like it, you could always sell it and buy another hood off craigslist or the junkyard. anyhow, good luck.

I'm just not a fan of cowl hoods, It adds lines that dont match my truck IMO... It came with the truck and i have a nice straight hood I found on craigslist, I will be primering my truck soon so the cowl is coming off.

Re: Cowl or not

If I had the know-how, I'd make a functional ram air hood like the had on the 69-72 olds 442's.

Re: Cowl or not

Meh, since they are 'all show and no go' I'd pass.

IMHO they are kind of a square body equivalent to those big exhausts on ricers.

I like the look of a cowl hood, but it's just not for me. If I were in the situation, I would pass.

Apparently you don't understand what equivalent means...

If it was functional, it would be a different story, but otherwise it is just a poser look. Same as the big ricer mufflers that kids put on. The look implies performance, which nine times out of ten is not there.

Hope that helps you understand my perspective. Regardless, it is a good trade as a re-sale item given the circumstances the OP gave.

The Goodmark hood is open in the back and can be made functional with the correct air cleaner.
