what causes wipers to not park, and to come on thne off intermittently ? this a motor or a switch problem ?

make sure all the wires are hooked up, there should be two plug into the motor. if one is not plugged in (i beleive it has two leads) they will not "park"

I have a 1976 GMC K15 with the same problem. The wipers won't park. The fellow I bought the truck from told me he had swapped out the wiper motor and ever since, they would not park. I can't pass the safety inspection to get this truck regestered until I solve this puzzle. Yesterday I swapped out the motor again. This did not solve the problem. I now expect either a faulty wire or a faulty switch. If you have fixed your wipers, I sure would like to hear from you about how you did it.

Also if anyone out there has any ideas about how to locate the wire that controls this function, that would make my life much more simple.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

I just asked this question about a week ago. Here is the link. My truck is 3 hrs away and I don't go home often so havn't gotten to try to fix it the way the reply says to. Do your guy's wipers stop in the middle of the windsheild like mine or do yours keep going even though the switch is in the stop position?

wow someone did some searching/old post digging, i dont even remember which vehicle i asked this about, it has been too many vehicles ago,. heh

they are supposed to keep moving and go down to park when you turn switch off, even if the wipes are up high on the glass.

would be switch wear problem or ground connection problem, wipers system is controlled with variable ground, is hot all the time at motor with key on.

replace switch with another one that is known to be good

I finally figured out the trouble with a little help from a Chilton Manual. The wiper motor has a subsystem which controls the washer pump. This is the small solenoid and contacts located beneath the black plastic cover. Beneath that is a metal cover which enclosed a large gear that controls how long the washer runs. This gear also control a pair of contacts that maintain power to the wiper motor until they reach the park position.

I discovered this after I swapped out the original motor with a second one from a junk yard. The new motor had the same problem with parking. I decided that since I had two motors I could afford to disassemble on to the point where I could understand how it worked.

Once I cleaned the contact points the motor worked fine. Apparently this is a frequent cause of this problem so I thought I should post my results.
