NOS RCA 8 Track for the Circuit Rider
This is a NOS GM fit RCA AM/FM MPX 8 track that I just bought. It fits a 70 Nova and Chevelle without any dash mods so this should fit my truck without any dash cutting. I thought I might install this as a different approach towards a 8 track AM/FM radio install.
If it doesn't work I still have my factory AM/FM radio (although not a 70 factory option) and dealer GM 8 track.

Re: NOS RCA 8 Track for the Circuit Rider
[QUOTE=basemodel67;4372803]Hi, I'm only 31... what's an 8 track?
When I was 19, back in '66, adding a tape player was the only stereo you could put in a vehicle in our area. FM radio wasn't available. Cassettes were still a couple of years away (late '68). So, the first ones were 4-track. Muntz was a manufacturer, for instance. Lear came out with an 8-track. We butchered a buncha doors on '64 1/2-66 Mustangs for speaker locations. So, what is a 4 or an 8-track? If you look at the tape surface, imagine that it has 4, or 8, lanes....like a highway. Two of the tracks are at the top of the tape surface, with two more below that, and another two under those and the last two at the bottom. If it is a 4-track, it only has 4 "lanes". Cassettes only have two. Reel-to-reel tape has two, unless you had an Akai X-track recorder that could record on 4 channels. I knew a guy when I was at Biloxi, who was from Atlanta, GA. He had that Akai and could play a mean guitar. He recorded four parts of a song, doing each part on a set of tracks, then when it was played back, all four parts were there as if four guys were playing guitar....only it was him. In the first part of '69, I wanted a cassette player for my stereo system, but they weren't out for cars yet. So, I bought a Pioneer deck that played both 4 and 8 track tapes. Never installed it. Never bought a tape for it. I did buy an Ampex cassette deck when I got back from overseas in July, '69. So, I sold the Pioneer. BTW, I have some 8-tracks now, as well as a Lear 8-track recorder and a few blank 8-tracks.......

Re: NOS RCA 8 Track for the Circuit Rider
That's neat-I have been watching for an 8-track for my truck and I too have the factory am/fm in the 69-it looks like those posts are adjustable. Waiting to see how it fits-looks awesome!
