New member intro

Hi all,
My name's Brian. I've been bouncing around the world with the Navy for the last 12 years or so, and I've had my 64 C10 Fleetside since ~1994 I guess. Been beating it up as a work truck until about two years ago, and finally put her down for a refresh. Pulled the 283/4spd out, and dropped a .060 over 4-bolt 350 in, backed by a 700R4. Ultimately, I'll probably go through the 283, warm it up a bit, and add a Gear Vendors unit behind the 4 speed, but for now it runs strong and looks good although I really kinda miss the, ahem, "patina" she had before.
Still in the garage and awaiting a free weekend is a full front/rear disc swap, 2 1/2" drop spindles, 2" front and 4" rear coils to get her down to earth a bit. (around 4" all the way around in the end) Also waiting for my hitch reciever to arrive since I lost the ugly, but useable, diamond plated bumper mount I had prior to resto. Glad to be here!

Re: New member intro

Welcome from Fort Worth! May I ask why your doing a Gear Vendors unit? those are real expensive, what about a 5 speed conversion, since your planning on the motor what about an LS with a 5speed?

Very expensive. I just thought he was rich
I've only ever seen one in person in a 68 C-30 and it was behind a 500 Caddy. They are nice though.

Mostly 'cause I'd like to get the original drivetrain back in it at some point. As for the gear vendor unit, I helped a buddy of mine put one in his 1 ton dodge, and loved the gear split action, and I liked my 4 speed box. Plus, the diesel finally blew in it, so I could get the overdrive unit cheaper than a good T5. I've kicked around an LS swap as well. Great motors, but not really the direction I want to take the truck at the moment. I'm not against the modern swaps at all, though-I'm dropping a 4.6L mod motor into my '63 Mercury comet, but I suppose that's for another forum...
Thanks for all the kind response!

And of course, a disclaimer...all my plans are chronically subject to change, pending finances, time and opportunity. Or the next issue of Classic Truck.

Re: New member intro

Thanks again for all the response! Someone had asked about what I have planned after I installed the brakes and suspension...not much until I save a bit...took a 9 month deployment and a lot of horse trading to get it where it is now! Also have a few other projects that take resources, namely an old BMW bike I'm putting together and the Merc Comet that I'm compiling parts for. My goal with the truck is functionality over form. I have a set of freshly painted wide ralley wheels that'll go on after the brake swap, as I'm swapping over to a 5x5 bolt pattern. Air con and power steering are also on the short list, and air bags to maintain the ride hight with a load in the back (I often have motorbikes and junk I haul around). Then there's the crap wiring that I've been dealing with, some kind of stereo to cut out some wind noise, and eventually a rear mounted gas tank. Trouble is, I want it all now
