Stripped Lower control arm bushing!

I was installing new lower control arm shafts w/bushings on my 72' 1/2 ton 2wd and realized that the bushing was rotating with the shaft when I was trying to torque the bushings. What to do? New control arm? Can I weld/tack the bushing to the control arm until I can find a new replacement control arm? The threads in the control arm were questionable when I dismantled the shaft assembly! This drop is turning into a $$$ nightmare! Help Please? Thanks! Its the right side...;-)

Re: Stripped Lower control arm bushing!

It was half a dozen years ago that I did mine but I do remember something about having the same concerns? I think it's normal for the whole damn thing to want to spin but I can recall what I did. Don't fret too much until someone with more knowledge can chime in...it may be sop that they spin.

Thanks for the reply man The bushings shouldnt spin, only the shaft. The manual calls for for 130 ft lbs of torque, I didnt get half that before it let go! Its a pizz poor design if you ask me! Im going to smear some JB Weld on the threads and reassemble it, Ill go with that until I can find a replacement control arm. If that dont hold the bushing still Im going to tack weld the sob! Ive flirted with the idea of drilling and tapping for a set screw or a roll pin as long as it dont interfere with the shaft. "Happier New Year!"
