i did a search and no other threads on this subject so i thought id tho this out to all the budget builders. i did alittle searching on other forums and i decided to go with a jag clip in my non chevy, 1960 dodge truck. now the the questions will be is price? (the clip itself rebuild parts and what have ya) i got my clip at the local u-pull it for $100. sometimes by looking on CL or ebay you mite be able to find a whole car for a decent price, and they have a nice irs system also. main rebuild parts, bushing, balljoints and such are about the same in price as anything else you have to rebuild, but the steering rack is abit spendy. a key thing is nice they have the same 4.75 wheel bolt pattern as a chevy, but part of the hub will have to be machined down alittle to clear a standard chevy wheel (around .060 from what i read).
now the years that are best are the like from 70-86 xj's. track width is 59"+/. the jag clip is a bolt on and rubber isolated, about 30" +/- on the outside mounting of the clip. which you can install it the same way on your stock frame or trim the crossmember down and weld it in or weld brackets to bolt in solid. either way you go with you mite have to do alittle trimming on the stock front crossmember of your frame. with my stock frame it does have a slight up and down and in and out frame rails (similar to the 60 and up chevy truck frames). now i have in place with with welded brackets and bolted in but not totally done yet, i need to set the cab and front clip back on to see if i like where its sitting at as far as height. but at this point i have about a 4-5" drop with out all the body and m/t weight. so a few pics for now ( sorry not the best tho) but gives ya the idea of the clip in my frame. any ?'s i will try to help out the best i can.

also i will be making upper shock mount off the crossmsmber either in front or behind the upper control arm using shorter shocks, but woul ddoing thay till i decide on the m/t combo

Cool, Ive seen it done a couple of times in Nz on early ford trucks etc, nice and tidy with rear mounted rack.
Only issues Ive seen are the fairly savage angles on the steering universals and pretty major camber gain at height with the short upper arms, but thats only an issue if you're running bags. Guys here use the jag rear ends alot to. |

My best friends father-in-law just bought a 53 chevy post with this done. I had never heard of using a Jag FRONT. What are the benefits of this front end over say a camaro/nova?

The 54 post I have has a camaro subframe and he is wanting to replace his chassis with mine (mines getting a complete custom build frame) because he doesn't like the way the jag front sits. I didn't know if the jag was cheaper or just different so that would be the reason this guy used it.(I would say by the sounds of my friends car, it had to be free. The guy made the speaker box out of peg board!) Like I said, I had never heard of using this before (of course I'm a paint/body guy)

well as for the benfits of the jag clip
rack steering no reason to cut up the stock frame(for most apps) can be welded or bolted it(no messing with rad support) replacement parts are no expensive then a nova/ camaro(except for the rack itself) standard chevy bolt pattern 4.75 (but hub does need to be machined to fit the standard chevy wheel/ralley) i paid $100.00 for the complete unit cut out (unit price wise to me was cheaper then finding a nova/camaro clip now a days) as far as it handling the weight of an older 50's car or truck is ok as the most jags weighed in at 3800# or better(my dodge 3400#) and maybe a few others if i think about more downfalls the price of a rack if needed having to machine the hubs but i actually like the look of the jag wheel dressed up abit(see pic- chevy truck trim ring and on old plymouth i had in the garage) hooking up the rack to you column of choice on the account of the angle of the rack and building bracket for the shock mount anyway its to the builder and what they can afford or willing to pay for good usable parts

Pops if you are refering to me , im not sure on the jag irs yet as i will be using the truck to haul and tow with it
