Blazer trailer hitches

Can anyone recomend a good class 3 hitch for a 72 blazer with a sport bumper. Ive seen some that look great, some that you have to cut off part of the plate bracket and some that stick way out. Can people with hitches post some pics with a make and model # and where they got it from. I would like to get a nice clean look on my Blazer with a sport bumper.

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

I have a Valley on my Blazer with a step bumper. It would hang below the sport bumper if I had one. I don't

I have heard that U-Haul makes good hitches for our trucks.

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

I have a homemade hitch on the back of my blazer, but it broke when I tried to pull a trailer. I talked with a guy at a custom hitch place and he said he could make one for my blazer.

I would say ask around for someone who makes custom hitches. Maybe check around at a trailer or rv sales place.

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

When I received my 72' Jimmy from previous owner it had a hitch on the back. It is made specifically for blazer/jimmy's. I do not plan to use the hitch-it's in great shape. PM me...

Pics of a rear hitch would be great! Thanks. Has anyone ever used the one that LMC sells?

I'll try to remember & take a few pics tonight. This one doesn't show anything, but that was the point...the tag flips down to put the hitch in.

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

Anybody have pix of the uhaul or LMC hitch?

After a couple craigslist hitches that don't fit, I'm ready to buy something new and be done with it. I don't want a hidden hitch, don't want an adjustable fits-all cobbled together thing, just a clean looking class III receiver hanging below the license plate on my sport bumper.

I've searched the forum and only came up with a pic of the early classics hidden hitch (don't want) and one that came off a 88 K30 (looked good).

I'm posting a WTB in the parts section just in case a board member has a nice one that is within driving distance. I figure shipping would be pricey.

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

Here's the thread to pix of the 88 K30 hitch.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&highlight=k30

One of these hitches would be sweet.

I want something I know will fit and look good. Unless it came off a '72 K5, I'm chasing $40 hitches on Craigslist and I don't have time for that anymore. Stopped at Uhaul yesterday. Thought maybe I could get a look at one or have another shop send me a photo but there isn't one listed in their database anywhere in the U.S. If I ordered one it would be built. If I didn't like it I'd be out $50 restock/cancellation fee.

I'm ready to pony up for something but I need to know what it looks like first. As far as I can tell manufacturers have some generic 'file photo' that may or may not be the actual hitch.

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

Okay just a stupid question. How about a hitch off a 80s full size chevy van. I saw ALOT at the junkyard the other day but did not have a tape measure with me. Would you just be able to buy a new hitch for a 1988 k30 crew cab?

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

BBrendal - that's good idea. I appreciate your reply.

However, I'm comparing the 'actual photo' on the etrailer sight to the one jimmypop put on his and they are not the same. jimmypop's receiver part hangs down below the cross tube. The etrailer one is at the same height as the cross tube putting the receiver right at the bottom of the frame rails making it a 'hidden hitch'. Plus, jimmypop has an aftermarket step bumper that I think hangs down lower than the sport bumper. Maybe it will work but to order something for $150 I gotta KNOW it will fit.

That etrailer hitch looks like a good option if I decide to do the body lift on my 2000 K2500 Crew Cab Short Box.

Still looking for some photos of something installed on a 72 K5 that I can buy.

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

Stomper did you scroll down on that site there are 19 other hitches there and some do drop below the rear lic plate. Im in the same boat you are in. I dont want the hidden hitch and also I dont want the receiver sticking out 6 to 8 inches past the bumper when the ball mount is not it. They say that draw tight 41001 will fit a 72 GMC pick up when I did a search.

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

I had a local muffler shop install a 'custom' hitch on my Blazer about 10 years ago. They cut the mounts to match the lower contour of my frame and welded it on. I know that welding is not the prefered or safest way to attach a hitch, but mine survived a jackknife incident I had years ago while flat towing another truck in which the other truck pushed my Blazer sideways by the hitch (a long story goes with that!). Anyways, the hitch hangs below my license plate, but that is OK because it proects my oversized gas tank that hangs kind of low.

cleszkie, That's just what I want! Can I buy yours?

Decided a couple days ago to order the U-Haul hitch. Will take a month to make. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

If you look at the picture thread you'll see you can flip the hitch over and tuck it up.

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

So after 30 days of waiting and calling and not getting anyone to tell me anything... Uhaul finally fesses up that they had misplaced my order and it hadn't even been started being built!

They apologized and gave me some $ back and said they'd overnight it as soon as it is finished.

Re: Blazer trailer hitches

I received the hitch last week. They are probably not going to want to make another one. After refunding me a few bucks for loosing my order and then overnighting it, they made about $20. I plan to install it this weekend. I'll take pix when it's mounted.
