TH350 Cooler Lines
Hey Everyone,
I'm taking care of a couple things on a 71' C10 I bought and one major issue(well it is to me) is the trans cooler lines are touching the exhaust. These things look like original hard lines that have been pretzeled through many years of use. They do run to an auxiliary cooler in front of the radiator and through the radiator as well. I know there has to be a better solution. I was thinking of running braided steel lines but cost is more important than appearance as this is only a work truck.Let me know what works and doesn't. I got the same thing going on, the cooler lines are right next to my pass. side header. I assume it can be replaced with some rubber line (away from any heat), but really don't know.

I'm running the stock manifolds, can't imagine it with headers! Boiled tranny fluid anyone?!

Here is the way some one did it. I saved the pictures to my hard drive.
You can see the lines run under the starter and along the oil pan. They are probably clamped to a pan bolt.

you can buy new hard lines or run the ones you have better. Keep in mind that you can't run just any "rubber" line. There is special rubber line for this and its much higher $ the last time i bought some but i run hard lines anytime i can.

The second is the proflo hose that I used to build mine along with the Jegs fittings. This, for me, works a ton better than hard lines - I was able to tuck them up into the frame rail and keep them out if the way, I like the black lines since they always look clean and the are kind of hidden

I have a pretty low opinion of the braided flex lines and rubber trans cooler lines. IF I WERE YOU, I would buy a new set of pre bent lines, and massage
them to clear what you want them to clear. When you get to the radiator I would figure out which one goes into the trans cooler in the radiator ( the top one, I think ) and run the fluid into the radiator, and out of the radiator and then trhut the external cooler and THEN back to the trans. Transmission fluid likes to be a very consistent temp., and this would do that. Quote:
