Any guaranteed fit Headers for a 350/SM465 combo?
Help a fellow trucker out.......I have done alot of searching and havent really found what I'm looking for.
Its time to ditch the factory manifolds and glass packs and go with something that will make more HP and sound civilized. I would like to grab some mid to long tube headers that care ceramic coated. I don't want them to hang super low and risk the chance of rubbing with the 4.5/6 drop. So do we have a definate yes they will fit a 1969 350/sm465 (4 speed manual) with power steering header? Not looking for super cheap but I also don't want to spend $450 on sbc headers.

I used a set of Sanderson ceramic coated 3/4-length Chevelle headers in my Big-Block truck that fit really nice. I didn't want the long hang down type because my truck was bagged.

I want long tubes but I prefer that the headers sweep back vs. dropping a ton below the frame.

That's what I went with only for a big block. More room on the truck- they looked and fit GREAT. Super high-quality! Twice as thick as the normal cheapie headers.

Hooker Super Comps all the way.
I still have mine, and they fit very well. I'm running a small block with the SM465 as well.

Too bad your rig isn't a 4x4, otherwise I'd make you a deal on my headers!
I took em out years ago, just because I was restoring back to mostly stock. So, up in the rafters of the garage they languish.

Re: Any guaranteed fit Headers for a 350/SM465 combo?
I am interested in this match up as well. I have the same combo and need a reasonably priced header setup. The clutch linkage seems to be directly in the path of the driver's side exhaust on my rig. Anyone got pics of what they're running?

Re: Any guaranteed fit Headers for a 350/SM465 combo?
I'm looking at headers too and have the same combo.
I found these: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-69640/ anyone know if they fit? The summit website says they work with a floor shifted manual, but then going to the hedman hedders site, it says no.

Re: Any guaranteed fit Headers for a 350/SM465 combo?
I tried three different kinds of shorty hedders, They all came out to far before dropping down so they hit the frame. Hedmen elite longtubes hang too low for a truck dropped more than 2 1/2 x 4.

Re: Any guaranteed fit Headers for a 350/SM465 combo?
This is what we wound up using although we bought them used for 75$ (SCORE!!).
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-2452HKR/?rtype=7 They clear everything and don't hang too low in my opinion at all. The key to clearing the clutch linkage is the back pipe on the driver's side needs to have that kick forward before it bends back. If you click on the 360* view you can see this when looking at the driver's side header from the side. I shaved the frame ever so slightly but you may or may not need to as after they were in, they clear the frame by a decent amount. I will say this. They were a PIA to install. You almost have to install while also installing the starter as 1 precludes the other from sliding into place. An extra pair of hands comes in handy here.

I haven't had time to install them and change up the exhaust yet. When I pull the truck apart for a redo in a couple years I will ceramic coat them. I couldn't get a great answer about fit and I didnt want to cut up the spendy coating if I needed to modify them.

Re: Any guaranteed fit Headers for a 350/SM465 combo?
I went ahead and ordered a set of headers that mentioned above, so we'll see if they fit. I'll update this when I figure out if they fit.
It looks like the rear tube bends forward enough, but the collector may be in the way....we'll see. I got these ones cause I really like the ball-flange collectors. I'm putting in a tbi engine, so my O2 sensor will go in the collector, and I didn't want to mess with adding a heated O2 sensor. I for the life of me, can not get my stupid manifolds to seal up at the "collector". Hopefully these will solve that problem and give me slightly more power. |

Re: Any guaranteed fit Headers for a 350/SM465 combo?
Heddman made the only set I could find that would work with the mechanical clutch linkage when I ran them on the Jimmy. Not sure if they will work on a 2x4 or not. But they tuck nicely in between the frame rails in the 4x4 version unlike the two wheel drive ones which are just stupid low. It looks like 68-82 Corvette headers would probably work in a 67-72 2x4 application FWIW.
I just put new Hedmans on my '86 K30 454 because the PO had put 2x4 headers on it and had to pull the front driveshaft because where the collectors hung down. 73-87 4x4 truck headers might be a good solution for 67-72 2x4 trucks, at least for auto trans applications. My K30 is hydraulic linkage so that wasn't a problem.

Re: Any guaranteed fit Headers for a 350/SM465 combo?
They fit! Hedman P/N 69640
I had to flip the rod that goes from the Z-bar to the clutch fork, but that's it Problem is: I wouldn't call these performance headers. Small primaries, and small collectors. But the ball flange collectors will make it worth it to me. |

Running Hookers with a 327/SM465 here. The only interference I found was on the upper leg of the Z-bar. Heat it up, put a 1" dogleg to the outside and you're good.
