oil pressure chevy 350

i have a 79 chevy 350, on the freeway the oil pressure gauge is around 40-45 doing 65. but today it kept jumping between 40 n 60 then went from 40 to 100 real fast then drop back to 40, what is the normal psi suppose to be? n the gauge is elec. so im thinking a bad ground or connection? or is it sumthing wrong with the pump? i dont know if anyone else has had this problem.

Re: oil pressure chevy 350

between 40 and 60 i like to see it. 100 lbs of oil pressure is NOT right.

Re: oil pressure chevy 350

common rule of thumb is that all you need is 10 psi for every 1000 rpm. In your case, I'd also bet the gauge or sending unit is faulty.
