I guess my truck is going back to the bodyshop... Fml... How bad is it?
I left my truck at my uncles for a couple days and this is what happened some old guy back out and turned to sharp and hurt my truck. It was another square so you can call it square on square crime. How bad do you guys think it is? Does it need a new door or can it get fixed with some good body work. Worst part is I just got the truck waxed and detailed last weekend..

Re: I guess my truck is going back to the bodyshop... Fml... How bad is it?
With that huge kink in the upper body line, and the low cost of a replacement door I see the door as being cheaper.
I love this truck, but those back tires make it sooo sweet.

Yes once you start getting past that upper body line that sucks on these trucks. You can spend a long time making it right and from the looks of the rest of the door I would think you will be alot happier just replacing it.Great looking truck by the way

Re: I guess my truck is going back to the bodyshop... Fml... How bad is it?
A teenage cell phone holding neighbor of mine caused similar damage to my driver's door. I ended up replacing the door. The metal gets stretched and it's pretty much impossible to get the original shape back. A good friend of mine is a body man by trade, he's also a metal craftsman, english wheel, and all the other exotic metal tools. He couldn't get my door hammered out, this is a guy that builds Model A fenders from scratch.
I'm not trying to depress you and the pictures may look worse than reality, but I'd be scouring Craig's List asap for a door. Good luck and your truck looks sweet!

Re: I guess my truck is going back to the bodyshop... Fml... How bad is it?
It is easier and cheaper to change the door or skin it, as for finding a door lmc site vendors, for sale here, classicparts, local dealer, tons have skins or shells. Goodmark has them for like $130-160 or so, lmc is around the same maybe cheaper.

Re: I guess my truck is going back to the bodyshop... Fml... How bad is it?
Will his insurance cover it???
You can get doors for them cheap. (LMC parts) Made in CHina by the finest of technicians using the metric system. WAY cheaper than trying to fix the dooor at 50-75 per hour. Tell the old guy he needs to get out from behind the wheel before he kills someone. Last edited by rayfinseats; 01-22-2011 at 07:19 PM. |

New skin or door. find a shop thats good at matching paint. And I mean good enough he can grind to fix a dent in the center of a panel and not have to paint the whole panel, and you'll never know it happened.

Ouch, I would just put a new door and be done with it. Lower labor cost and you will get your truck on the road faster. Nice truck also homie.

Yea you have too nice of a truck to depreciate it with bondo. A little more work, maybe a little more money, but it's 10x worth it.

Re: I guess my truck is going back to the bodyshop... Fml... How bad is it?
I'd find a junkyard door. The main problem I've seen with these doors is the door shell (not sheet metal itself) is too thin. meaning when the outer skin is lined up where you want it, the inner part of the door can be up to 1" away from touching the weatherstripping at the bottom. as long as you watch out for that, it'll be OK.

Re: I guess my truck is going back to the bodyshop... Fml... How bad is it?
The aftermarket door can be a real pain to align. I would try to get an original door from a salvage yard or craigslist if possible. The labor for prep and paint would be around the same.

Re: I guess my truck is going back to the bodyshop... Fml... How bad is it?
If youre stuck with an aftermarket door get one from our site vendor Tri Pro automotive or Capt Kaos.. Both sell QUALITY aftermarkets. There are several grades of aftermarket parts i was told by a body guy who did some work on my car after an accident with a deer. He claimed that the aftermarket parts he bought were class A. I know the work he did on my car looks good and the fitment on the hood and fender are nice ( good as OEM)

Re: I guess my truck is going back to the bodyshop... Fml... How bad is it?
$500 sounds very cheap. Is the bodyman going to blend the paint into the cab side and fender? If he doesn't, chances are the paint isn't going to match, even if the paint code is the same. Especially if your paint is metallic.

Um...That really sucks Dude. What a beautiful truck. I have a couple of doors from my local pick and pull with minor dents, no rust and they are taking up space in my garage. Give me a call 512-636-4544 and I'll make you a great deal.
