64 c10 shortbed- first car rebuild

there is a lot of history to this truck and its about a decade in the wait for a rebuild. truck was bought for me by my grandfather when i was 14, we did a bit of work to it before i was 16 when my dad brought it to a prison bodyshop to get the paint done. after that he then asked me for the 2400 dollars he had spent on stuff for the truck, well i wasn't working at the time so my parent's decided that they would take custody of the truck for the next 12 years much to my fighting and pleading to get it back. anyways after much pleading and fighting my mom turned around and gave it to my brother for helping them with some septic work (yeah my parents are AWESOME ) who then in turn gave it to me, so anyways fast foward 13 years i'm now 28 with two kids, in the military and finally have my truck back. sorry for the long story but its the history of the truck.

64 fleetside shortbed
factory inline 6 etc
frame is really straight, great shape and untouched
98k original miles
some minor rust spots in the bottom of one door and the bottom of the front fenders
the bodyshop at the prison did a subpar job but i'm goin to take the whole thing to metal and go from there.

my plan for it a straight up drivable hotrod. i'm sure things will change a 100 times but here is my plan as i have it so far.

Chevy LQ4 LQ9 engine (truck 6.0 iron block) 99-07 pickup, harness, ecu etc
D60 rear axle
t400 w/Gear vendor overdrive
CPP front and rear disk brake kit
CPP front suspension
4 link rear suspension
Billet dash with custom gauges
Tilt steering column
LS1 supercharger
Relocate gas tank
Tub rear wheel wells
New wood bed
Chrome bumpers and grill
New wheels (deep dish rear)
Bucket seats/ center console
Replace floorpans
Fix rust in door
One piece windows
Aluminum radiator/ tranny cooler

anyways we'll see how it goes. at the moment i'm finishing up a frame off on my 71 bronco (don't hate me). then it will be game time on the ol chevy. first things first is find the motor.

Re: 64 c10 shortbed- first car rebuild

lol, i'm trying to get my wife to send me the rest of my pics, like i said i'm overseas otherwise i would post more pics. its rougher then it looks in that pic. the floor pans need some minor attention and a couple other spots but really its in great shape for a 45 year old truck. this site is goin to get me in trouble i already found scott's hotrod webpage and saw their suspension setups and they are fairly local to me (socal) so my truck might have to take a trip to talk to them about IFS and a 4 link.

Glad you finally got your truck back. Hopefully the bodywork isn't hiding too many nightmares.

Thank you for your service and stay safe over there.

I'm betting you're Navy. My buddy who's owns a 81 C10 was stationed out there, he's currently helping me with my 66 as well.

THREAD REVIVAL! lol, i sit here in afghan and my truck sits exactly as in pics. Trying to do two projects at once never works. I have a 1971 bronco i'm building a crawler out of which has been getting the attention the last couple years. Honestly have to thank you guys for posting your builds as everytime i get down on not working on mine i just look at the amazing builds you guys have and it remotivates to sit and keep working when i have time.

Re: 64 c10 shortbed- first car rebuild

anyone used these guys?

http://www.scottshotrods.com/63-87-Chevy-GMC.asp

they are fairly local to me and i think a complete IFS and 4 link with coilovers is just what my truck needs, lol.

also i kinda adjusted course on motor and trans i have been thinking... found a couple wreckers that specialize in late model sports cars and sell complete drivetrains for newer camaro, corvettes etc.... i have a bonus coming might just have to splurge and get a new corvette LS and 6 speed....
