Is the Mustang II front end worth it? I can get a weld in kit with the coil-over suspension for right around $1,000. Is it worth the coin? I need to totally rebuild the front suspension already so i will have to throw some money at it an I can spend a couple hundred more and get the Mustang II front end. If I go with the mustang II should I upgrade to coil-overs or stick with the stock coil spring/shock style that comes with it?

Checkout the Porterbuilt Dropmember or Scotts Hot Rods IFS kit.

A weld in mustang II is a great weight saver. But depends on what you want to do, Lay low (Porterbuilt), Racing (Mustang).

I am not lookin to lay frame, I just want a lighter front end for racing. Scott's is about 3x more $$$ than Helix. I can get the weld in Mustang II kit for $1100 from Helix.

If I'm not mistaken the dropmember is also lighter,checkout Wild83c10 he's a board member and his truck is running a dropmember and he dosent lay frame he's about performance. Plus the new dropmember with coilovers is ready. But it sounds like you got your mind made up.

I am not set on the Mustang II and I didn't know the dropmember was for something other than laying frame so I will look into that as well.

Give Nathan a ring he is the best,I talked to him once for about a hour. He just sent me the price of the coil over dropmember the other day.

I've had cars with the mustang II front and IMO our trucks are too stinking heavy for such a fragil front end. If you loose a bunch of weight off the nose, then sure., but I would rather have a light A-frame suspension like S&W or a Alston's kits over the base Mustang II package in a heavy machine.

I went with the M II and I havent finished the truck yet my research seems to lead me to think it will work fine. I have seen several this way at the track and they dont seem to be any worse for the ware. Price and durablity and function I believe the M-II will be OK

I've kinda been checkin' out that S&W strut front end. There's a guy here in Texas with that setup on his 86 C10. I'll see if I can dig up the pics...it looked pretty cool...and light.

I have been thinking Mustang 2 for mine for a while. But first is the cage. Also, mine should be down to close to 3450lbs total with out driver pretty soon with almost a 50/50 bias (might even be with the glide going in since it was 51/49 before).

how did you get 51/49 bias with the engine and trans frontend ,forward of centerline

Time, patience and engineering

Really, the truck started out as 59/41 bias and 3,900lbs with me in it. Last time at the tack it weighed 3,525 and had a 51/59 bias.

It started by putting an alum block and alum headed LS motor in it. (but that netted the 59/41 bias).
1) Find and remove everything you can in the engine bay you don't need:
2) Removed the front bumper
3) Moved the batterey from the front to the way back right (this does 2 things, takes weight of the nose front of the axle which has a leverage ratio making the batterey heavier on the front than what it really is, then it does the leverage thing on the rear making it heavier on the rean and actually lightening up the front more)
4) Went from power steering back to a manual box
5) Fabbed up a front crossmember from 2x4 square tube but retained the factory control arms.
6) Added 100lbs to the tailgate (Makes a huge difference on the rear and again takes weight off the front)

The fuel cell is also as far back as possible and the more full the tank is, the more on the rear/less on the front.
