e85
I am planning a new engine build around e85. I want to put together a 406 with higher compression but wondering how much power my 3/8 fuel line will support if I step up to e85 from gas. I have heard the 3/8 will support 550-600 hp gas but I am not sure on e85 because it takes so much more fuel.
I am in the very early planning stages so if you have some ideas fire away. This will be going in a 71 c10, 29 inch rear tire, 3.73 gears, and is completely a weekend cruise truck. I do plan on hitting the strip this summer though. So far was thinking scat cast crank, forged scat rods, forged speed pro domed pistons, some Ik 200 or track 1 heads, and topped with an rpm air gap. I haven't thought about a cam yet.

Re: e85
Ditch the speed pro pistons, they have horrible quality control issues any more. I wouldnt sell a set of speed pros to my worst enemy.

Re: e85
For a little more I was also looking at SRP's.

Re: e85
With E85 you need to be able to support about 30% more fuel volume for a given power level than you do with gasoline.....so to support 500hp on e85 you'd need a fuel system that would support 650ish on gas, plus the components need to be alcohol resistant.
I would stay away from domed pistons if you can.....a flat top piston and a smaller chamber will promote better flame travel.

Re: e85
I am going to build the short block now and hopefully finish the rest this summer. How does this sound so far:
400 block .030 over Scat 9000 cast crank Scat forged I beam rods SRP -4cc dome forged pistons ( I realize flat tops are more efficent but running E85 I think I will gain more from the higher compression without having to mill a new set of heads) Comp Cams XE274H Brodix IK 200's Single plane manifold Holley 750 set up for E85 This is my start. Hoping for 475-500hp and 500-525 tq. It will be going in my 71 c10, TH350 and 12 bolt rear. Probably will be a 28in tire.
