Im sorry already... electrical issue

Hey I have a 1985 Chevy C10, 2wd 305 TH350. We did a motor swap to it this past weekend and its running and driving great but...

Today when I went to start my truck I turned the key and nothing happend, the buzzer didn't buzz, and the head unit had no power, my lights worked though... I popped the hood jigged wires, got back in and it was all good.

Later it did the same thing to me at wawa, but I opened the door and I guess it jiggled enough to be ok and it was good again.

SO my question is what wire would do this? The only thing I can think of is maybe one of the wires down to the starter is loose? Cause I know they can screw you sometimes... Ne ideas?

I know bad battery terminal connections can do funny things like that. what wires did you wiggle?

The most likely cause are either a loose battery terminal. Loose connections at the starter. Also the fusible links at the starter could be bad.

Yeah I tightened up the battery terminals first, unfortunatley that isnt it, Ill check the starter wires, and wheres the fusible link down to the starter?

did you just tighten? or remove, clean, re-install and tighten?

Ony lights work, does the starter stall at all??? i mean even with a loose terminal the radio would have worked even the buzzer did you plugged everything back..alt, starter and such for whay i heard it uncover the column and check the wires and see if the have any current.

Check and make sure all your fusible links are in good shape when you blow the one to the ignition everything dies. occasionally it grounds out or the battery cables are switched. I go around the ignition system with a multimeter and trace for shorts or loss of current.

I will confirm for you that I had the same problem and it was caused by the smaller wire leaving the starter's hot post. There is the one that comes from the battery and then the one that goes from the starter back up to power everything else. My problem was the little wire had been geeting warm and the insulation was breaking down and grounding out what should of been hot. Hope this helps you.
