scrap trucks pricing
I hauled in a 69 C20 with basically everything but hood and drivers fender ended up weighing 3500#'s, $350 for it. I'm afraid they are going to start disappearing more around the USA

Re: scrap trucks pricing
i cut up 2 rolling chassis, bed, cab, hood, door, and some misc. b.s.. all together was 3860#. weighed tin and short iron seperate and got $446.50. i'm sure there be more cut up or crushed. there was not anything worth saving in what i hauled off. i don't mind crushing them as long as all the good stuff is spared!!!

Re: scrap trucks pricing
Man this is scary. I am a bit at a time, starting to hoard more parts because all my local yards have crushed what 67-72 trucks they had.

Re: scrap trucks pricing
Yup, when iron scrap started peaking last summer and the year before I noticed the local salvaged yards cleaned house. Prices were so good that a couple guys down the street were paying as much as $200 for old long box pickups and were getting $400-450 per truck scrap value. Only catch was they had to break them down to 3 foot chunks, but they had a system to where they could have a truck chopped and loaded in 3 hours. Doing the math, that's a good hourly wage.

Re: scrap trucks pricing
It is getting hard enough just to find a wrecking yard any more, let alone one that has older trucks. Everything else is just throw-away crap anymore.

Re: scrap trucks pricing
I crushed a 72 3/4 ton sierra last week. No engine, no trans, no rear end wheels or tires, no grill, bumper, brake booster and missing about 1/2 of the interior... Still got $266 for what was left. Prices did drop a little this month already. Just pulled another in the garage to strip down about an hour ago. Hate to crush, but...

Re: scrap trucks pricing
I sent a 67 to the crusher not long ago. it brought 416. I've got a 72 cheyenne headed there soon. But this is after I remove all the good parts.

Re: scrap trucks pricing
Start hoarding now while you can. I have seen some really nice parts trucks at the scrap yard. It's easy to see why at those prices.
I had a guy catch me in the road, hey you want to sell those old cars and trucks back there? He was looking at google earth or drove on my neighbors property, not sure? anyway, I said yeah I might sell if the price is right. He said I usually offer $50 to $100 depending on how much they weigh. Dude, I got a 67, 68 camaro, 2 67-72 classic swb chassis, a 67 short step, 70 cst 3/4 and a 69 GMC. $100 ea.? really? Mind you they need restored but I think I will keep them. |

Re: scrap trucks pricing
Poor old vehicles...I'll hoard these old trucks before sending them to the scraper. I see too many guys in the states sending these classics to the scraper for over priced metal. Up here we get $100-200 for a car..that's it. Luckily I've found a few guys in my time willing to sell below scrap just to keep a classic from being crushed. Those are true car guys

Re: scrap trucks pricing
all I can say is this is sad when people start crushing old cars/trucks because they dont care about anything other then putting money in their pockets.
I will hoarder all the parts from these trucks as long as I live before crushing one. I would even take the time to build one from parts I dont need just to be able to keep it going before crushing it.

Re: scrap trucks pricing
I hauled a 3/4 ton frame with the bed and core support. It had some added gas tanks and got $347 for it. It was $230 a ton here. Now it went down to $200 a ton here. When i was waiting to unload two 67-72's came in.

Re: scrap trucks pricing
Its $250 per ton here.. just hauled in an 85 S10 blazer 4X4, complete with a couple "extras" tossed inside.. brought $500 and change.. wow..
I have discovered that scrap prices here seem to slide right along with gas prices.. gas goes up, so does scrap and vice versa. |

Re: scrap trucks pricing
I saw a 60s van and I think an old ford headed to the crusher. I all but begged them to call the number on my card if they got any 67-72 trucks in id come right up.
No way, I'd have to call everyday. Sad. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: scrap trucks pricing
I crushed 10 67-72 chevy trucks about a year ago. I thought I was done with them. A couple of months later I bought two more for parts trucks because I found myself needing parts that I had crushed. I will not crush these anytime soon.

Re: scrap trucks pricing
This thread has made me sad. I hate to say it but on the brightside, every truck that is crushed brings up the value of ours just a little more.
That being said, what happened to the running $500-1k trucks I used to see on CL all the time?.. Now the min. price I see anymore is $1700..

Re: scrap trucks pricing
There's still a few $500-1000 deals out there on CL. I find so many all over but unfortunately I can only fit so many trucks in my drive way and garage lol Need to sell the blazer then I can start collecting a few more
I'm starting to think it might be worth my time to haul my scrap metal across the boarder into WA.

Re: scrap trucks pricing
I went to the recycle center this week with a load of non automotive metal.Got 9 cents a lb. Sold 22 lbs of #1 copper for $66. Sign said $11.25lb for cars. As I was leaving a truck rolled in hauling a 70's model Caddy Brougham limo. No telling what he got for it. I saw several truck chassis but the bodies were gone. Maybe some one saved those.

I was thinking the same thing. I can remember back in 86 it went down to around 1 cent a pound.
