Chance to buy..

Gonna look at a truck tomorrow, its a 72 shortbed 1/2T.

Owner has clear title, he said it had an engine compartment fire so some wires are melted but the body is straight. At this point i have no idea if its a numbers matching truck at this point. it does have a spotlight on the drivers A piller. Its been sitting for quite some time. said he wants to get $1900 for it. but sounds like he's not in any hurry to sell but admits he has too many projects.

I have only seen it from the road at probably 75 yards away so until i look at it i won't know what options, engine, amount of rust ect ect, so i'm trying to get a bit of an idea what it might be worth, yea kinda vague.

Also is a big block crank bolt the same size as a smallblock? i want to take a breaker bar to see if the engine will at least turn over.

Any help appreciated..

Re: Chance to buy..

Not sure of the bolt size on the crank, but some #s off the block would make it alot easier to ID.You also mentioned fire, get some pics and post them, its hard to say WIW without pics.

Re: Chance to buy..

Well I took a look at it today, I thought it was a 1/2 ton short box from looking thru the brush, well on closer examination its actually a 3/4T 4X4 LWB that is sitting pretty low with the usual rust in the rockers and doors and cab corners but not as bad as my truck, Didn't see any rust in the roof area inside. On the exterior its rusted thru the drivers cab corner and the passanger door, these two areas are worse than my truck, dash is not cut.. Paint is blue and white, the carpet is actually in fair shape seat cover has some tears, emblem said C20

The bed us full of trash the bed floor that i could see was rusty from being out side but didn't look rusted thru, body was pretty straight, missing a couple trim pieces around the taillights, front bumper gone and radiator gone, grill broken but had a replacement.

It has the thick foam seat that i want, dana 44 ft, eaton rear. Engine was a long wp so looked to be from the 80's, the heater core was pulled at some point and reinstalled with non factory bolts holding it in, also had an engine fire, spark plug wires and wires on firewall fryed. Obviously not a runner.

Read the SPID, nice list of options but nothing stood out. Small block V-8 no posi... I didn't want to try and snap a pic in front of him. He wanted $1500, i told him it wasn't worth that much to me and really i wanted a 1/2 ton. I didn't toss out a counter.

So from my description what do ya think price wise? it is a little rough but pretty straight, would make a good project truck. I'll also add that if i was to put a different engine and fix sone wiring it looks like it would be a driver. The pic was a drive by shooting at 20 mph..

Re: Chance to buy..

So it's a 3/4 4x4 SWB for sure or a LWB?

Pretty sure they didnt make 3/4 4X4 in a short wheel base...or actually for that matter, I dont think the factory made any kind of 3/4 short wheel base trucks.

Re: Chance to buy..

Yea, LWB accidently omitted from post.. Sure wish i could have taken a pic of the SPID, had about 7-8 items in each colum, lower trim, didn't note any cheyanne emblems tho but the body looked to be all origional less the tail gate. Oh, it has saddle tank option, one without a gas cap LOL!

Re: Chance to buy..

Well there's a few trucks in similar condition in WA going for $600-1000. All 4x4 3/4 LWB.

Re: Chance to buy..

throw out a counter offer of $1000 and go from there. i would say that $1500 would be for a runner, not a burned up project. what's the worst that can happen? you either won't agree on a price and end up finding another truck or he takes your offer or you meet in the middle. just my .02

Re: Chance to buy..

In Texas.. that truck would probably bringing about $500.
Not that sought after, and too much rust.
