Re: my new 4x4 1971 gmc
I have an old 4 wheeler magazine from 1978 and shows a new bronco and a 73+ chevy with a low rise hood like that. Is the hood glass or steel? I'm not sure anyone other than hickey made them.
This is the first hood that I've ever came across besides in that magazine..... |

Re: my new 4x4 1971 gmc
I'd be after that for 5 years, too. That's exactly what I want. Low-profile utility bodies are a fetish of mine...(well,at least I really like them )
I believe that is a Hickey drop hood. Hooker might have made one, too. May have been from Hickey and just marketed by Hooker. But,Hooker had a whole line of fiberglass body stuff as wheel as chrome tube bumpers and roll bars, etc. The idea was to give better visibility coming up over obstacles. Purdy dang kewl if you ask me. Especially on a truck that isn't exactly loaded up with "just to look cool" accessories. The government outfits their vehicles for what they feel they needed. It shows how the early years of 4wd aftermarket was more about enhance capability than to satisfy cool factor. I don't know if it just ended up this way or not,but it was also common to run wide rear tires and not so wide up front for better steering, less wear, and less resistance into soft stuff. Also, you saw straight tread on front and mud & snows on rear. You mostly saw it on gov't vehicles. They only bought 4wd because they needed it. It looks like someone put the deluxe side markers on at some point. What other add-ons does it have? Got any interior shots? I see it has the Standard two-tone option.

Re: my new 4x4 1971 gmc
Nice score, at first I thought that hood was like the one on a blazer some friends of mine raced in SCORE in the 70's. But theirs was dropped all the way front to back. Still very cool. What other goodies are on this one.
