Help on a '79 Camper Special
Hey all. I went to look over some farm equipment that's going to be on auction tomorrow and came across an extremely clean '79 reg cab 4x4 dually camper special that's also going to be on the sale. The sheetmetal is straight, paint and interior are clean. The tag on the glovebox door says it came with a 400, but it now has a 350 with supposedly 42,000 miles on it. It has a 7x9 flatbed on it.
I'm not at all familiar with these pickups. All I know is that I want it in my driveway tomorrow. Can you guys advise me on anything regarding this pickup? Axles, tranny, issues, etc. Like I say, I don't know much about dualies, but I do know this pickup is really clean. And it's pretty awesome. I'll try to get pictures of it tomorrow, even if I don't buy it. Sorry for the short notice, and thanks for any advice or help! |

Re: Help on a '79 Camper Special
The front axle is a Dana 60 (worth 400-600), the rear is a Dana 70HD (the most common gear ratio is 4.10/1). If it is a stick it should have a NP205 transfer case. if it has an auto should be Th400 with NP205 but since it is a 79 it could have the NP203 behind that Th400(Lock in hubs should indicate 205).
