Impact Wrench Help

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased a Craftsman Pro 27g Vertical compressor (SCFM @40 psi - 7.2, SCFM @90 - 5.8/ MC 150psi).

I am fairly confident this is a perfect fit air compressor for me because after shopping for a 1/2' impact wrench I have found unlimited possibilities. On paper, all of the 1/2' wrenches I have found should be optimized with this compressor.

I actually expected there to be limitations from the compressor so now I am stuck with just finding the gun that provides what I need without being overly priced or heavy duty.

Any suggestions? Budget isn't exactly an issue but I would like to have a solid wrench that doesn't require much maintenance. I will be using it mostly for wheel/tire rotations, suspension removal/installation, perhaps engine/tranny work in the future.

Has anyone ever heard of Cleco? My friend says this company sets the standards for pneumatics. I like SnapOn but could really do without their outrageous new tool pricing and I am to impatient to wait for ePlay. Craftsman Pro tools seem sturdy but just randomly have a "cheap" feel about them.

Just go to northern tool website or sears and buy an ingersol gun. Ingersol makes most of the air tools the big guys sell. craftsmen,mac,matco and snap on all sell guns with there name on it made by ingersol.Make sure you get a decent set of impact rated sockets as well. The chrome sockets will just split and shatter on an impact gun.

I agree with cableguy, Go with a Ingersoll. I've been using mine daily for 25 years and have finally wore out the anvil, Cost for a anvil and rebuild kit is too close to buying a new gun and starting all over; Amazon.com: Ingersoll-Rand 231C 1/2-Inch...

I also like Ingersoll Rand, But Ive replaced alot of my air tools with Air-Cat because they are alot quieter http://aircat.com/
I think my Ingersoll 232 1/2" is the loudest gun in the world

cleco is an industrial product. if you can find 1 they are great. i would go with an ingersoll. i have the titanimum gun and its is not very loud and hits hard. a few of the other mechanics at work have the aircats but they have had to be rebuilt and my gun is still going strong.

i have an IR 2135 timax. Got new on amazon,$235, very happy with the gun. I use it daily. its pretty quiet.

some of the craftsman pro wrenches are made by IR. and i have a lot of snap on tools, but i would not buy a snap on impact.

I played with a couple of air wrenches and the IR brand does seem to be the most notable. However, the Cleco on that local listing is 100$.. I can't find any information about that particular model number though.

I would go with ingersol. I work on big diesels and a renamed ingersol that says matco on the side removed the head bolts on a ISX 15 L overtheroad engine. My old bluepoint didnt even try to do it. They are cheap and stout. The only complaint i have is how long they take to slow down after they buzz the bolt out and hit red line. Will be buying one soon myself.
