Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
Alright, So I bought a 67 LWB 4wd today. Didn't even think about the windshield wipers working or not till I got going down the road. This wouldn't be a big deal except I live in WA state. Tomorrow I am going to go buy a tester to test to see if I get power to the switch. I've looked through the search engine and couldn't find a lot about swapping the wiper motors to something from a newer model truck. Can someone that knows where a thread is post a link or have some knowledge about it? Thanks in advance. I don't know if it is single speed or double speed. Again thanks. I'll post pictures of the truck in a new thread later.

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
These trucks have two speed wipers. Why do you want to change to a newer system? It sounds like you just need to fix what you have. The wipers in these trucks are very reliable. I have rarely heard of anyone ever having problems with them. I never have. Sorry to hear you are one of the rare cases.

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
I'd like to just fix it. But if the motor is bad i'd like to upgrade to a faster wiper motor. But if it's a lot cheaper to just keep an original style motor then I will. I called Oreilly's and they didn't have a switch. I was going to just change it out and see if that fixed it. But since they didn't have one I am going to test to see if i get power and if I do then change out the motor.

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
We've had a bunch of wiper problems in the electrical forum and numerous posts about them. I just typed windshield wiper switch in the little rectangle box at the top of this page and checked the 67/72 button and a ton of pages come up. This one is one of the better ones.-----http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=413551
The wiper motor is hot wired and the switch completes the ground side for the motor windings for the two speeds and the washer motor. You won't find any power on the switch but you can check each terminal to the ground as you turn the switch knob.

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
I dont know if you have the same issue but I have had two of these trucks with the wipers not working, both of them had the same problem, I reached up behind the switch and wiggled the connection around and they worked, same thing in both trucks. You may as well try it, it could be the spades are dirty and not connecting to the plug well. I ended up unpluging mine and cleaning the spades with a little sand paper.

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
So I took out the wiper motor to swap it out. I swapped it out and still nothing. I'm didn't get a voltmeter or test light today I have one at work that I will get tomorrow and try it. After getting to the wiper motor and looking I have three wires going into the motor a Black and light blue and a yellow. The three wires going to the switch are light blue, dark blue and black. Is that color scheme normal?

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
The wiper motor in my son's truck seemed weak and now won't push the wipers at all. I have it out and will put some juice to it and see what happens.

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
My wiper motor didn't quit, but my wipers wouldn't work. I guess the motor has to be hooked up to the linkage......

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
i'm sure you have checked it already but if you haven't, double check the fuse AND the fuse block itself. my suburban was working fine and just quit while driving in a downpour. i was getting ready to swap the wiper motor when, for the hell of it i decided to check the fuse-it was fine but the connection in the fuse block itself was corroded. took my trusty dremel tool to it, added a little dielectric grease and they work fine again. just a thought before you go through the trouble of swapping the motor, which is a pain in the a$$.

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
If you feel you need to swap to a newer style wiper set up for more speed, then you have a weak motor, when new, they actually tend to go too fast. The one on my burb is so fast I NEVER use high.
You need to check for power, and see if the switch is grounding the system. |

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
you can go to the FAQ in the electrical forum and find a labeled fuse block.

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
I figured out that it was the fuse in question. I went to the junkyard yanked out a good fuse box out of another 67 and came home and the bolt that holds then inside the cab to the inside the firewall part together has a rusted on backing plate and I can't get it off at all. Anyone know of any tricks how to get that off? I only have hand tools nothing power minus a drill.

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
So I hooked everything up back how it was supposed to be hooked up. Tested it before I reinstalled everything and it was working fine. Put the cowl back on and it is working fine. I put the wipers on and put the rest of the tools up and then start the truck and try the wipers one last time. They go down but never come back up. They aren't working now at all. Any suggestions on the problem?

Re: Windshield Wiper HELPPP!
if they went down, that means you have power to the motor.
I would look at the switch and the harness that goes to the switch. The park feature is internal. The motor will continue running till the wipers are in the park (down) position regardless if the switch is on or not. |

The switch was working alright when I had it unmounted testing it. Everytime that I start the truck they go to the park position. Then when I operate the switch they don't move. The connection and fuse are good so it boils down to probably a bad switch? |
