700R4 Advice

Hope you guys don't mind me posting a question in this area of the board, but I'm looking for some advice on the 700R4's.

I need to upgrade my '57 and have been looking at these two company's. Any advice or reccommendations will be greatly appreciated!!

Re: 700R4 Advice

I spoke with gearstar just a few weeks ago and was truly dismayed - the guy I spoke with seemed to be clueless, truly disappointed.
I know they have had some play time in the magazines lately but I vetoed them.
Phoenix seems to do a really good job from everything I have seen and read about them.
I have spoken with them several times at Good Guys and they seem to have their act together.

Re: 700R4 Advice

Have you looked at bowtieoverdrive or monster transmissions yet. I have a monster stage 2 in my 85 burb. Had no problems out of it yet. Have heard lots of good things about bowtieoverdrive.com also.

I am not sure if i would trust a 700R4 that costs 1300 shipped to hold 700 hp. You have to do alot to them to handel 500. I had always thought 600 was a 700r4s limit. And have always seen them going for almost 2500 bucks. But i may be wrong hope it works out good for ya.

Below is the rating on Dannys AKA Transmission Depot
5 complaints all but one resolved
Price seems almost to good to be true for the parts that they use!
A warranty on a tranny is great but the expense to uninstall and reinstall is so great - think long and hard before you bite off this one esp if you really have 700 HP that hooks!

Re: 700R4 Advice

Its a good thing you didn't go with monster IMO.... my experience with them has been much less than desirable.

Re: 700R4 Advice

You made a great decision.

Phoenix builds all of my transmissions. You pay but you won't be sorry. They are local to me so I go there in person. The shop is heated and air conditioned and it's spotless, and they dyno each trans in their shop behind a live engine before they ship it.

I recommend you talk to Scott Jackson when you call on the phone. He's the general manager.
