Changing axles?

I want to convert to truck arm suspension, and I found a rear end to do the swap. It is an early 68 model with 6 lug axles. I have a 71 frame and 5 lug axles, I want to keep the 5 lug can I just swap axles or am I going to run in to problems such as axle length or different spline count?

Re: Changing axles?

You CAN do it, but the axles are too long and dont really fit.

They make conversion axles....

Re: Changing axles?

I agree.

'65-'69 12 bolt=30 1/4", 30 spline
'71-'81 12 bolt=31 11/32", 30 spline
per Hollander

Re: Changing axles?

2 options.
Cut off leaf spring saddles off the 5 lug rear end and weld on new trailing arm saddles.
Or buy new 5 lug axles for your 68... $250 from Moser.
